My name is Jim Funnell and I’m an Anglo-French jazz pianist/composer/educator with a passion for musics and cultures from all over the world. As a bandleader, I've produced quite a few albums and singles with Word Out (my post-bop/ethno jazz fusion band) and AfuriKo (African infused jazz duo with percussionist Akiko Horii), with reviews on London Jazz News, All About Jazz, Jazz Magazine...
I’ve spent a good amount of time in both France and the UK, as well as in the US where I studied (Performance and Jazz Composition at Berklee College of Music in Boston) and lived for several years (mostly in Queens, New York). I also traveled to Mexico, Argentina, Uruguay, and Brazil, soaking up Latin America’s folklore and Afro-Latin rhythms.
Besides my own projects, I love helping other creative musicians and producers bring their vision to life. My extensive experience on the road, in the studio, as a self-produced jazz artist, and as a versatile sideman will hopefully enable me to communicate with you efficiently, and understand the challenges you face with your own project.

I would like to thanks Jim funnel for his job in my new album. He participated recording in one of my compositions ( “ Guelito Jose”). He is a great professional and he did the job really fast et beautiful quality playing keyboard.

Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm currently working on a new microtonal jazz-funk track (in 24-TET using two keyboards tuned in quarter tones), as well as a jazz album that will feature bassist Chris Jennings, drummer Jeff Boudreaux, and percussionist Akiko Horii. These two projects should be released sometime this year or next (2024).
