"Finding a producer for your music project can be a challenge. I was lucky to find Paulino. He is a talented multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. Attention to detail is excellent. He has all the industry standard resources. He can take your project from seed level to television commercials/film and get labels interested in your finished project."

Interview with Paulino lorenzo

Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
When I met brendan Croskerry (2007) we did an entire album and we signed a license with MTV New york. I have that contract framed at home!!
What are you working on at the moment?
I work as a composer/producer for a french publisher.
Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
I´m a rookie in this place... But I have seen many interesting people there.
Analog or digital and why?
It all depends. If the track is good it doesn´t has that importance. If the track is bullshit, it doesn´t have any importance. So what?
What's your 'promise' to your clients?
I promise try my best, I´m going to take really seriously your job.
What do you like most about your job?
I really like to help people to achieve his goal. In terms of music, it looks easy, but sometimes you simply don´t find the right person to do it.
What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
usually they want to "sound like..." My answer usually goes: You have to be realistic. Although you buy Bill Evan´s glasses, you´re not going to play piano as he did. Being realistic is a good way to start a good track.
What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
Not a single producer make miracles. Everybody needs help to do a smash track.
What questions do you ask prospective clients?
What are your references? what´s your finish line ?
What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
I´m here to help you the best I can.
If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
Mac, LogicXPro (bundles of plugins, samplers etc.) Mic: Maybe telefunken. Upright piano. I would be happy in that place.
What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
I started in the earlies 90´s in Spain. I was composing and making music arragement for several artists here and there. Later on, 2005, me and my partner got a huge sucess with a novelty track in France, Spain and Hispanoamerica. Her goes the link http://bit.ly/26A3TxP. We really learn how to produce after that. After that we work developing different artists, mainly the canadian Brendan Croskerry (http://bit.ly/1pNUUYg), and then we create a brand "SugarfreeDjs" It´s about making dance pop with different artist worlwide. We continue doing that.
How would you describe your style?
Musical.I always try to do music, not "style"
Which artist would you like to work with and why?
There are many. But to me Beyoncé is #1. Why? She has all. And personally I think she continues the traces of the soul¨s Goods, Isaac Hayes, Prince, Aretha, etc.
Can you share one music production tip?
Apply to the sub a light distortion. Low eq. it till 500 Hz. Record a full scale in your Sampler machine. Bounce it to have the audios. Apply a limiter (fab Filter is good +9 dbs.) Bounce again. It´s about not to have dynamic range (3 db maximum) Cut every note. Put the same level on every note. WE´re talking about RMS, not peak. Voilá. you got a really powerfull sub.
What type of music do you usually work on?
Lately I´ve been working on Dance pop, Tropical House, EDM tracks.
What's your strongest skill?
To understand what the artists requires and take it to the next level. I´m easy to work (and to deal) with.
What do you bring to a song?
I bring clarity, brilliance, and originality
What's your typical work process?
I usually received an idea, demo, rogh edit. etc. I analyze that. And I get the strongest issues, and later on we agree that I make a pre-production. When we agreed what is the best way, I continue working deeply in the arrangement and mixing.
Tell us about your studio setup.
Outboard: Universal Audio and Avalon Preamps. Mic: Charter Oak, Neumann. PCI: Apogee. Mixing: Logic X Pro, Avid Pro-tools. Monitors: Yamaha, Genelec. Studio Instruments: Upright piano Yamaha U3. E. Guitar Fender Telecaster. etc.
What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
I think I´m not innovative in this field. On one hand my musical background is close to Soul, Jazz, and many other styles. On the other hand I do my job following the #1 nowadays producers: Dr. Luke, Diplo, Josh Abraham, Skrillex, etc.
Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
I usually work closely to composers, singers, or other producers: I pay attention to all details that they require for their project .When I consider that I deeply understood the ideas, I try to take them to the next level.
