Melisa is an awesome bass player with deep pocket grooves, great tone, and an excellent ear who goes over and above delivering awesome parts with lots of choices. Her parts give the feeling she was in the studio with me to record. She is my go-to choice since I started using her on sessions and has performed on multiple songs over two albums this year. I have never needed a revision, her parts are right the first time and I look forward to working with her again!

I have worked with Melisa two times and results are over my expectation. She carried my projects to professional level. She is not just a great bass player, she is also a professional arranger with enormous sense of music and knowledge. Every professional project needs to her touch.

Interview with Melisabass

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I'm recording 3 albums for different clients, I'm also launching some bass lessons videos.

  3. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  4. A: Communicate, tell the sessionist everything you imagine for your song, the more you talk to me, the more I can know what you expect and do a better job.

  5. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  6. A: A bass, a notebook with infinite battery, an audio interface, headphones, plug cable.

  7. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  8. A: My musical journey started playing guitar at age thirteen. Soon after, I started playing bass and drums. By the time I finished high school, I had fallen in love with music and was determined to make it my career path. I enrolled at Escuela de Musica Contemporanea (a Berklee International Network accredited school) in Buenos Aires in 2006, majoring in bass and guitar performance, as well as Jazz Arranging. Upon graduation, I was admitted to the highly selective Manuel de Falla Conservatory Jazz program, where I had the opportunity to study under the guidance of some of the top jazz players in my country for three years, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in jazz performance. Seeking to further my knowledge of the bass and jazz composition, I traveled to New York and Boston on different occasions where I took private lessons with Matt Pavolka, Mark Helias, and Guillermo Klein.

  9. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  10. A: The very last works I did with the electric bass where some folk songs and some electronic pop songs, I also recorded a punk record and fingerstyle funk songs. With the double bass I recorded several pop songs, some simile Norah Jones style with some female singers from UK. Last I recorded a number of jazz tunes.

  11. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  12. A: My time keeping, I'm very concerned about locking in the rhythm and playing in the pocket. I also have a very clean but full and rich sound.

  13. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  14. A: I bring my best to every song, if the client provides any specific requirements I do my best to fulfill he's or her's desire. If the client leaves the bass part entirely to me, I listen carefully to what the song needs and try out every option I think works until I find the best one.

  15. Q: What's your typical work process?

  16. A: First I listen several times to the song I have to record, then if my client didn't provide a chart of the song I make one. I setup the session on Logic and I play song several times until I'm comfortable with it. Then I choose the right bass, with the right settings for the song and I start recording some takes. I listen carefully to the recordings and check what I liked and dislike, then do the final recording.

  17. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  18. A: I work at my home studio with a variety of audio interfaces, the one I mostly use is the Apogee One. I use Logic Pro X on a mac computer, I can record the bass through a DI or through a Mark bass pre amp, or an Aguilar Pre amp, I can also record a cab signal, I use a Mesa Boogie bass cabinet with a Markbass head and I also have a Markbass cabinet. The mics I use are an Audio Technica AT2050, a Shure Sm7b, and a Shure sm57. I can record 3 simultaneous signals for the double bass. and for the bass.

  19. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  20. A: The most work I do is recording bass lines for my clients songs, I've recorded over 100 songs in the last year on a variety of genres. I always have great communication with my clients in order to know what they expect from the bass and be sure I play up to those expectations and more.
