MinaKayo Productions on SoundBetter

HI there fellow musician! I am a Multi Instrumentalist producer, beat maker, songwriter and engineer based in South London with over 10 years of experience in creating great songs appealing to the masses.

I have been producing songs since the late 2000s, my specialities are within writing, beat making, and production, always looking to create great songs that get the listener hooked. My signature beatmaking style shines through within pop music, house music, trap music, and grime - and my ability to create great synths around the beats brings the song to life, whilst always achieving the musicians end goal and vision.

My facilities allow the musician to record vocals over backing tracks/ create a full song through live instrumentation/ and create a fully produced song from scratch with my system.

You tell me however i can help, whether starting from a blank canvas, or finishing off a near fully written song, i'll follow your lead. Hear some of my recent work and crisp mixes of fully written and produced tracks on this page!

I'd love to hear about your project. Click the 'Contact' button above to get in touch.

Interview with MinaKayo Productions

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I have had many however one stands out this year - I worked on a Pop/ EDM track for a young artist that he wanted to release as a charity single during the lockdown of 2020. The song was raising money for the NHS and was promoted by a few celebrities on social media. The song acquired a large number of streams upon release and in turn the backers donated funds also raising a substantial amount of money for the charity. On top of this the song was a belter!

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I am working on an E.P for a brand new artist who has just started releasing songs. She has a huge following on social media and has asked my to help with the production of her first 4 songs which is very exciting.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Yes

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Analog, you just cant beat the original quality!

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I promise to take incredible care with your production and produce a song you are perfectly happy with. Regardless how long the process is!

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: EVERYTHING!

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Can you autotune the vocals to make me sound like drake? Yes!

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: I feel people think a producer or engineer can make any song sound great, unfortunately if the song is not great on paper, there's only so much we can do!

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What reference tracks do we want to use to show your style? What message are we portraying in this song?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Find me your best reference tracks. If I understand the vision we can do great things, if your unsure of what sound you would like this may just take a bit longer!

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: MacBook with Logic, Iloud speakers, guitar, beat machine, microphone

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I have done this since my early teens, writing/producing and also playing live as a solo act with guitar. My career path is to achieve a status similar to Benny Blanco, where top musicians want my input!

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: My style is groove. I spend an insane amount of time on the beat finding the right snares/kicks/hats just so I can get the groove of the song just right

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I would love to work with Kanye West, I know he's a bit mad! but the guy is a genius, his visions within music are exceptional and I can't get enough of his songs.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Less is more!

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: pop/trap and house music are my best genres. Music suited to the charts is where my skills shine best, whether that be within producing these types of songs or writing them.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My strongest skill is production. I combine this with my beatmaking skills, creating a song from scratch which is suited to the charts. I would say pop/trap and house music are my best genres, and I understand the way a song needs to keep the listener engaged and how this should be done.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring my knowledge of what makes a song a hit. There is a formula for a good song which I understand well. My knowledge of the right amount of instrumentation to add and energy of the song from the verse to the chorus is second to none, and is what keeps the listener engaged and interested throughout the song.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I start with the musicians vision and reference tracks to what they would like their song to sound like/feel like. I then create the instrumentation relatively bare allowing for the beat to be made next which will create the energy of the song. From their we can add extra instrumentation to fill out the production and lay vocals before a final mix.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: My studio is based in Croydon in an apartment that has been converted from a home into a music making powerhouse! it has facilities for multiple instrumentation and fully soundproofed.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Calvin Harris, Porter Robinson, Benny Blanco, Rick Rubin. These guys really excite me through their incredible production skills making hit songs. All learnt their craft through sheer hardwork and starting from their bedrooms.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Beatmaking, production, recording, mixing. My main focus is the creation of a song from scratch throughout many genres
