Songwriter & Producer

KeichiP221 / Milafare Altarela on SoundBetter

Creating stories through instrumental songs.

I specialize in writing songs that tells a journey, a story, even without any lyrics. But heavily focused on the instrument picks, melody progression, chord progressions, and mixing.

My favorite DAW is FL Studio and I've learned to use it since 2014. But I started to write songs for personal project albums since last year.

I also have an alter-ego persona specialized for musical adventure as "Milafare Altarela", an elven female who is also my Original Character from my novel project called "Soundverse"

About my music background, I learned Piano since 2003 and Violin in 2006. I have 17+ experience in music and have more than sufficient knowledge for music theory. As long as I live, I will never stop improving myself.

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: My year-long project, "Milafare Altarela's Adventure" series, split into 4 Albums, my favorite is the Volume 2 - "Living with Excitement and Thrills in Lexith" where I solo producing all the songs with orchestral instrument libraries by Spitfire Audio BBC Orchestra Discover.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I'm working on my usual quarterly album release as "Milafare Altarela". As per this day (21st of April 2021), my project is a 9-song Album titled "Radiant Sunshine and Falling Leaves" that tells about how my travelling goddess OC (original character) visiting new people across different worlds and era during Summer until Autumn.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I'm pretty new here, so I don't really have any relationships with fellow SoundBetter providers. But that doesn't mean that I don't want to make one!

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital, even though it sounds synthetic and "too clean", but they're portable.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: Since most of my clients are comic and illustration artists, or a novelist, my promise to them is "I will always remember your works and attribute your characters in my Album releases"

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: When the client grants me a total freedom in composing is one thing, but loving my personal releases and want me to modify it and use it for their own use is another level above the former.

  13. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  14. A: I usually ask them with "Can you explain a bit about how did you get an idea to create something like this?" or "What's the story behind your materials?" In other words, I always do a background check so that I can immerse myself into their briefing.

  15. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  16. A: I want to see their passion and enthusiasm to signal me that they'll be active in giving feedbacks and providing reasonable revisions. Their materials should be interesting as well!

  17. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  18. A: Since I don't have a lot of gears right now, probably just my laptop and my headphones since they're portable.

  19. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  20. A: I want to stay independent and make a living from producing a specialized composition for my clients that focuses on story-telling about their characters, world, or even as a game. I've been doing this for at least a year and quarter.

  21. Q: How would you describe your style?

  22. A: My producing style is like a woman's dress. Complex-looking dress with synonymous flow and harmony, and worn by a woman that matches the concept design will truly show the beauty.

  23. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  24. A: I'd like to work with violinists like Brett & Eddy (TwoSet Violin), Rob Landes, pianists like Fonzi M, but my biggest dream is with an orchestral band.

  25. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  26. A: Every instrument has its own range, maximize their potential in their home tonal range and let other instruments fill the rest of the frequency spectrum.

  27. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  28. A: Classical, Orchestral, Symphonic, those three is my usual go-to because I've been studying so hard to write an orchestral.

  29. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  30. A: Melodies brainstorming! When I press the keys and listening to the voice of a piano, I feel like I can create an endless story of my brainstorming session.

  31. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  32. A: I bring a wordless saga for my client and listeners, they are more than free to interpret what kind of story that I invoked in my songs.

  33. Q: What's your typical work process?

  34. A: I started with a Piano plugin and clicking some keys to figure out the chord and melody that I want to bring. After I finished the whole song with just that piano, I continue adding accompaniments like bass, pads, arpeggio, strings, and other instruments that I want to have (based on the instrument references)

  35. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  36. A: Since I want to mainly focus on musical arrangement, programming chords and melodies for a full song, I mainly use a MIDI keyboard to record my melodies into the FL Studio's piano roll. I don't really touch the sound design part, because I don't have a decent headphones, monitor speakers, or audio interface yet. But I'm looking forward to get them soon!

  37. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  38. A: My inspiring musicians are mostly from producers who worked on rhythm game tracks, namely M2U, a_hisa, t+pazolite, Cashew, DM Ashura, Yooh.

  39. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  40. A: I mostly work based on visual inspirations which I translate into melodies. But I also need one or two references to understand the instruments that my client wants, but not the reference melody or chord progression.
