Want vocals that blend Adele's soulful richness with Alanis Morissette's edgy power? I got you covered!

Hi! I'm Natalie, a professional session singer based in Los Angeles :)

I am an accomplished session singer and songwriter known for my powerful and emotive vocals. My vocal style is a unique blend of Adele's soulful richness and Alanis Morissette's edgy power, which gives my voice a raw emotion and technical precision that sets it apart.

I also co-wrote "Fearless," which was used in the TV Marketing campaign for FastX.

I bring a high level of dedication and work ethic to every project, and a willingness to go the extra mile to ensure that every recording session is a success. I am your go-to session vocalist in the world of power ballads and beyond!

When my collaborator and I needed backing vocals for our next release, right away we knew we had to book Natalie. Not only does Natalie have a super sweet, powerful, and versatile voice, but she also turned around the files super quickly, allowing us to keep the project moving smoothly. If you want a great performance and great service on your next recording - Natalie is the perfect fit!

Natalie and I cowrote a song together in which she provided guitar and backing vocals for. She did an amazing job, and to this day it's one of my favorite collaborations!

Natalie is a tremendously unique talent with incredible musical range and professionalism. I have used her on may occasions for covers, original songs, and consulting on various marketing based projects. She has a keen understanding of the needs of marketing and how that relates to music composition, recording, and execution. Natalie will always be my first call, she should be yours.

Interview with Natalie Duque

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I mostly work in the pop world, but I was once asked to sing the lead vocals for a children’s album, and it was so much fun! Getting to be silly and single animal noises reminded me of the joy music brings to everyone, and why I love it so much.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I’m actually working on self-producing my first full length album! I also have a constant inflow of vocal session work and customer songwriting requests, as well as collaborations for sync. It just depends on the day!

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Kris Bradley with BoomFox Productions! She’s incredible at just about everything she does and has basically taught me everything I know :)

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital. I love the work-flow and freedom of recording with a DAW. The digitization of music recording equipment has allowed generations of musicians to create and share their own music, where it previously took a recording deal!

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: A quality product, a friendly collaborator with great communication. Easy exchange of ideas and files, no ego, fun creativity :)

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I just love being able to be creative on a daily basis, and getting to help people bring their musical babies to life!

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Most common questions are turnaround time and price. Both vary, but my turn around time isn't usually longer than a week.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: Just how hard I work... It sounds pretty breezy to be a singer but to stay in this business you have to work hard day in and day out!

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: I usually ask them what songs and artists inspired the song they're asking me to work on.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Listen to my vocal reel to see what I can bring to your project, ask me questions - I can send through further references specific to your project. I will only accept the project if I know I can deliver what you are looking for.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Mic, interface, laptop, keyboard, guitar :)

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I've been playing and writing music my entire life. I studied voice from 3rd grade through college, and picked up guitar and piano along the way. I got into songwriting when I was in middle school, and never looked back! I've been releasing my own music for about 15 years and have been doing session work for about 5 years.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Real, authentic, honest, and emotive.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Maren Morris and Julia Michaels- they’re both incredible story tellers and both know how to come up with really catchy melodies!

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Get organized! Pull in the work tape to the session, and be sure to label/marker, color code, etc…Taking a few minutes to get organized in the beginning of the session makes things run a lot more smoothly and quickly in the long run.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Pop, country pop, pop rock, adult contemporary

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My vocal versatility is my greatest strength, and writing melody is one of my favorite parts of the songwriting process. I get a lot of comments about my melodic instinct. I am also an excellent communicator and am quick to respond.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring a dynamic range of vocals to every project I work on. When songwriting, I bring my years of experience writing my own music and collaborating with other artists and songwriters, and apply them to every client I work with - whether it's their 5th album or their very first song.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: For vocal recording projects I usually receive a track or instrumental recording from my clients. Based on our communication, I track, comp and tune the melody vocal and send it over for a review. If we're recording a full vocal stack (melody, double, 2 harmonies and adlib), I then record and send over those files as well. When toplining and custom songwriting, I like to get as much specific instruction and inspiration from my clients as possible, including reference songs and artists they want the song to sound like. Then I will write a sample verse and chorus and send those to my clients to see if we're moving in the right direction. I'll finish out the song (typically a 2 verse, chorus, and bridge), and send either a demo track or a finished vocal track depending on the client's preference. Whatever the project, I always check in with the client regularly to make sure we're on the same page.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: -Logic Pro X -Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 -Slate VMS-1 Microphone (Neuman U-47, Sony C800g Telefunken 251) -Aston Microphones Halo Portable Microphone Reflection Filter -Sound treated space for recording high quality, professional vocals I like to use CLA wave plugins for playback only. I always deliver high quality, organized dry wav files at the end of a session.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I have worked with Grammy-nominated producers and songwriters and have soaked up all the expertise I could. That said, I grew up listening to 90s singer songwriters (Jewel, Alanis Morisette, etc.)- their influence still courses through my blood. I also love Adele for her vocal prowess and Miranda Lambert for her songwriting acumen.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Clients most commonly commission me for vocals and custom song demos.
