Interview with Nagasaki Sound Mastering

  1. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  2. A: I have an especially unique background as a professional in broadcast & music production, game sound design, sfx production library creation and management, and multimedia content creation.

  3. Q: How would you describe your style?

  4. A: I adapt to the goals and vision of the artist. As such, I don't seek to impose a certain sound. However, many clients choose me because they've heard my work prior and were impressed by the clarity and retention of transient details while still imparting a nice analog vibe. I'm particularly good at reaching a competitive level in the cleanest, clearest, most dynamic way possible while respecting the original intentions of the mix and doing no harm.

  5. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  6. A: 15 years experience in professional audio and music production, with 5 as a mastering engineer. I intimately know the genres I work with and the pocket a master needs to sit in comfortably to be competitive.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: Satisfaction guaranteed.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Meeting cool people from around the world, helping developing artists, and rocking out all day long!

  13. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  14. A: Centered around custom Tyler Acoustics Decade monitors, Dangerous Music routing and monitor control, and Lynx Hilo conversion. Hybrid digital / analog studio offering both warmth and precision. Mastering console, acoustic treatment and studio furniture all designed, hand-built, and installed by Steve Nagasaki.

  15. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  16. A: Golden ears and attention to detail.

  17. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
