Working with Lian on a podcast was so uncomplicated and trouble-free. I literally just sent her the files and gave points on what needs to be edited out and viola, I got it 2 days after! Very minimal supervision needed, and it was so professionally done, and I noticed the improvement in quality. I would definitely recommend anyone who's looking for a collaborator for audio editing, particularly in podcast or audiobooks to try Lian's services. Not only does she work professionally, she gives off a very good and light energy and that you'd feel like you've known her forever.

I highly recommend Lian Kyla Music! My raw file on my mental health episode was a bit destroyed from the Zoom glitches and there was no backup available. Thankfully, Lian Kyla Music did their magic and edited the episode as if there were no issues. The robotic sounds and glitches were removed from the audio and the background sounds were also effectively cleaned up. I'm also very happy with the turnaround time of the first draft and the edits afterwards. It was easy working with her.

Lian is an amazing singer. She sang a cover for a really important project and we received a huge response on LinkedIn.

Her professionalism, curiosity, and vocal control are unmatched. I recommend her highly.

Interview with Lian Kyla

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I'm currently working on 2 EPs for myself at the moment. One is a LoFi EP I'm composing and producing myself. The other EP is a collection of songs I've written during the quarantine. I am co-producing that EP. I am also working on a few songs for other P-pop artists as well.

  3. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  4. A: Kris Bradley---she is an amazing professional songwriter and producer.

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: I can promise you I'm friendly and easy to talk.

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: I love that I'm able to bring smiles to peoples faces. I love that feeling of being able to lift someone's spirits or make their day just a little bit better.

  9. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  10. A: What's your concept? What's your budget? What's your timeline?

  11. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  12. A: Talk to me about your project in full detail. Don't be shy to lay it all out there. I prefer to know the full story behind the song that I'm working on so I can craft well-thought out lyrics and melodies.

  13. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  14. A: I used to work in advertising as a brand and engagement strategist while juggling music on the side. I would record in the studio and do promotions all while crafting strategies for my clients. It was tough so in 2019 I decided to take the leap and pursue music full time. I've been writing, producing, and singing ever since then.

  15. Q: How would you describe your style?

  16. A: My personal style for my own songs is dreamy singer-songwriter pop. However, when I'm writing lyrics for others I would say I am heavily influenced by Sara Bareilles and the way she tells stories through her lyrics.

  17. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  18. A: Start with great sounds. The better your raw sounds are, the cleaner it will sound in the mix.

  19. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  20. A: I usually work on pop or acoustic-pop tracks.

  21. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  22. A: My vocal performance skills as well as my lyric writing. I'm a professional singer who has sung on various recordings for original soundtracks of TV shows. That means I've also had to meet tight deadlines for my vocals and still be able to deliver quality work.

  23. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  24. A: Heartfelt lyrics, experience as a professional singer, and an open mind, and a willingness to collaborate.

  25. Q: What's your typical work process?

  26. A: If I'm writing a song, I start with identifying what the main concept/idea is. What is the story that I want to tell. Then, I develop the progression of the musical ideas that'll lead up to the main point. After that, I write the lyrics or figure out the melody or hook. Then, I build out a rough demo of the song (with a simple arrangement on the piano). After that, I record everything into Logic.

  27. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  28. A: I record all my vocals in our home theater. It has a lot of acoustic panels and some really nice mood lighting for a nice vibe. I use a Shure SM7B microphone, a preamp, and a Scarlett 2i2 interface. I have a Korg KRONOS which I use to craft all my piano instrumentals. I usually mix on Sennheiser headphones.

  29. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  30. A: I'm really inspired by the work of Sara Bareilles, L.Dre, and Goosetaf. Although from different genres, I love how their work is inspiring and tells a story. No matter if these have lyrics or are just instrumentals.

  31. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  32. A: I am typically hired as a session singer by my clients. I provide clean vocal tracks and sometimes ad in harmonies and ad libs as well. Recently, I've also been writing songs for P-pop groups and those are being produced at the moment.
