I'm an experienced producer, sound designer, guitarist, and bassist in Nashville, TN who's available to play on or produce your track in just about every genre, but my specialties are pop, alternative, RnB, and hiphop. I've been releasing music for over 10 years now under my own personal projects and as a producer/writer for others. I enjoy taking the time to get to know an artist's personality, influences, goals, and art to help present the most authentic version of you to the world.

I have been playing music for almost 20 years. Most of which has been professionally - starting in my teens playing and touring with an artist from American Idol and later, a duo project with a friend, "DBMK" which I still produce for. I've loved getting to know the artists I work with and can't wait to help with your next project!

Interview with Miclain

  1. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  2. A: We'll make a unique song we can both be proud of.

  3. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  4. A: What do you want your music to feel like?

  5. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  6. A: 9v batteries, a Behringer guitar pedal because they're good at picking up radio frequencies, my JCM800 because the tubes would make good lightbulbs, studio chair for resting, and an SM58 for fighting off any animals because I know it won't break.

  7. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  8. A: Kanye - I just want to see what kind of process goes down in a session.

  9. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  10. A: Don't question yourself.

  11. Q: What's your typical work process?

  12. A: Generally I just start with an acoustic demo from the artist if the song is already written and then I just let whatever I hear come out to best represent my vision for the song. If the song isn't written yet, I discuss vision and come up with some ideas for sound/feel and see what comes out. I don't structure anything too rigidly because its generally restrictive on the songwriting and production process.

  13. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  14. A: Hip hop and pop mainly.

  15. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  16. A: Definitely production - finding new sounds timbres and textures through experimentation, and unifying sounds together to create something unique for an artist.

  17. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  18. A: Universal Audio Converters, Dizengoff, API, Vintech, Analogue Synths, tons of guitars/basses/amps - the good stuff

  19. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  20. A: Lido, Saba, Jack Garratt, Metro Boomin, James Blake, Travis Scott, Bon Iver, Kanye West

  21. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  22. A: Left of center interpretations of Indie, Pop, and Hip Hop are usually what I'm known for.
