Eddie Oz

I Write, Mix and Produce.

Eddie Oz on SoundBetter

My only goal is to make you sound how you imagine you should sound. I'm a producer by passion and and mix engineer by heart. Sounding good is the MO

I believe I have a unique sound in pop and alternative pop music. Vocal production is my forte, and what I've spent more time perfecting, however I am also a very well-versed producer and mixing engineer. a great mix can be the key for an amazing song to be a world wide hit.
As an artist and songwriter I understand song structure very well. I grew up with classical music so I care deeply for memorable melodies and chord progressions. A good hook can change the world.

From start to finish I will create a compelling atmosphere for your project. As a producer I like to work hand in hand with you. Your vision as an artist and or creator is the most important thing to me. based on that, I promise I can make your sound comparable to any top charting recording.

If your project is already recorded, I will do my best to take it a step further. I am very creative with mixing techniques and I truly believe I'm more than capable to get it sounding how it deserves. Balanced and dynamic are a few of my favorite words...

If you're in the Los Angeles area and are looking for a great place to record vocals and get top vocal production, look no further.

I'd love to hear about your project. Click the 'Contact' button above to get in touch.

Interview with Eddie Oz

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I'm proud of most of the work I've done lately. I like to put my heart on anything I take on, but if I had to pick something specifically, I really love the work I've done on songs like S a l u d o s by Kordelya. She is a fantastic writer.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I have some personal projects going on. I love singing so will keep recording and putting out my own songs but there's also some very promising artists like Kordelya and Elline whom I closely work with. Very promising new acts that are about to blow up.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: The Million Dollar Question. I believe the digital world is where it's at right now. The possibilities with plugins are far greater when it comes to creative choices. I have to admit though, that there's nothing like true analog warmth but I can totally live with what plugins can do now a days to warm up a source. plus, I like moving around and I'm not about to carry that LA2A around.

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: That it's always different. With every new artist, it's different, With every new, producer it's different. It's exciting to work with new people because it is always a different process.

  9. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  10. A: Can I sound like Beyoncé? The answer is: YES. I'm kidding. I get asked a lot about specific processing and what plugins I use and I have to be honest and say that I hate that question because I never have definite answer. For each source I pick a different approach. In a way is like using different seasoning on different dishes. It's important to learn what salt and pepper can do but at the end of the day there's different kinds of salts, different kinds of peppers and huge variety of seasoning out there. the difference might be noticeable for some but I love the idea of that minuscule nuance in a recording.

  11. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  12. A: That it's a simple task. small details and choices on a mix can be the difference from a good song and world wide hit. It's always different. It's definitely harder to get creative on something much more technical.

  13. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  14. A: I like knowing their vision and usually ask questions about them. I like having a more personal connection with my clients. In this industry it's all about close collaboration.

  15. Q: What's your typical work process?

  16. A: When it comes to making and producing a song I like inviting the artist to be as hands on as possible. I love collaborating more than anything. Mixing is always different for each song. I like understanding the meaning and intent of the artist before approaching any mixing. In my opinion the vocal is always the most essential part that any listener will focus on first in a pop song, so making it sound perfect is essential to me. However, I love it when artists and producers have a different vision of their song that would require a different style of mixing as opposed to how I usually tackle a mix. It gives me a great opportunity to get creative in different ways.

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: Please feel free to be honest with me if something doesn't sound right and tight enough. It happens to the best of us but just like in any relationship, communication is key.

  19. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  20. A: A deep, punchy and enjoyable sound. I think you'll be happy with my work.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Laptop, Beyerdynamic Headphones, Apollo Twin, Manley C Ref and a Modem. (I'll be needing some internet)

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: It's been quite the ride. I was a classically trained pianist from the age of 5 and I thought I would have end up doing that for life until I heard the work Max Martin did with all those superstar 90s and 2000s acts. I fell in love with pop music. I later became obsessed with sound and recording and have been doing that ever since. so I would say I've been creating music for 22 years and recording and producing it for around 12 to 13 years.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Poppy, natural-sounding, captivating, emotional, punchy.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Oh so many. but right now... Rosalia. She is killing it.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: When in stress, de-compress.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I love all kinds of music with nice, well-defined structures and chord progressions so... mostly pop music. but I love indie pop and alternative genres as well.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: I would say that my strongest skill is for song and melody writing. but I've spent so much time producing and mixing music that I would say I'm equally proficient in both of those things as well.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I think I'm able to see and understand a song as an artist and writer because I do both of those things primordially, but at the same time I think I'm absolutely capable of understanding what the elements in the song need sonically to be better understood and perceived. a compelling mix can be the difference from a great song and hit.

  37. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  38. A: Software: Ableton and Pro Tools. You know... the basic stuff. I love UAD and Fab Filter plugins. I think the use of external gear for mixing is now an unnecessary luxury. SUE ME. Izotope and Output are doing things right. My love for external hardware goes to Manley. From the second I heard what the Manley C Ref sounded like I knew I didn't need to look any further. I have tried all kinds of mic preamps but I'm a big fan of practicality and what UAD interfaces offer is more than enough in my opinion. They sound great. Monitors: BAREFOOT all the way. I love them and trust them with my life. I will always reference mixes on apple headphones because you know... Apple.

  39. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  40. A: Theres way to many to put on a list but I would say my biggest songwriter influences range from the works of The Beatles to Carol King. The current powerhouses of songwriting, Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter are huge inspirations as well. In terms of music production I admire the work of Paul Epworth, Greg Kurstin, Rik Simpson, Shellback, Monsters & Strangerz, Oscar Görres, just to mention a few. Serban Ghenea is my current favorite mix engineer. He does it right.

  41. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  42. A: I would say writing and making songs is what I do best but I love sound, deep compelling sound design and the technical elements of a great mix. I want my clients to sound as lively and profound as possible.
