I can't decide whether singing or song writing is my first love! I'm primarily a lyricist, I love working with strong melodies. I'm most at home with urban genres but have written pop songs for a few big names including Jason Derulo and John Legend. Looking for new projects that challenge me with strong producers and vocal arrangers.
Deborah Forbes recalls her first performances as singing lovers rock lullabies to a tent full of girls at age 11. She moved on to writing lyrics and performing with North West London sound systems alongside artists like General Levy, with show-stopping performances at Nottingham Hill Carnival aged just 14.
Deborah went on to get a BA Honours degree in Broadcast Journalism, and involved herself in the Garage scene in the mid 90's working closely with artists like Colour Girl.
The deep, sultry Jazz quality to her voice lends itself beautifully to a range of urban genres.
She says "my voice is a blessing "and "I've come to appreciate musical styles across the board over the years. I have written for Bashment, Lovers Rock, R&B and Jungle tracks".
"In more recent years Soulful House is where it's at! I love the energy and get lost in a heavy bass line, beautiful melody and some meaningful lyrics - "I'm home! I write about love, life and spiritual growth it's what I know".
