Will Burton on SoundBetter

Experienced and professional vocalist, songwriter and producer with a unique grasp on modern music and how to write catchy songs.

Hi, my name is Will and thanks for clicking on my profile!

I've sung for 15+ years and written songs for the past 7. I love my solo stuff, but I get really inspired by other people's work and pushing myself creatively! I can write and sing in any style you want: Hip-Hop, Pop, Rock, Metal, EDM, Classical/Jazz, Reggae, Soul, Disco - etc and I love to be challenged.
As I'm new to Soundbetter, I thought I'd leave some of my reviews from Fiverr (all 5* reviews) here to give you a sense of what I'm like to work with and what I can do:

Interview with Will Burton

  1. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  2. A: You'll want to order again

  3. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  4. A: The freedom to push myself creatively and to work hard without it feeling like work.

  5. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  6. A: A lot of my own music which I'm hoping to record and release in the near future. I'm also on Fiverr providing clients with a similar service

  7. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  8. A: Not yet but I'm sure there will be. It's a website brimming with extraordinarily talented people!

  9. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  10. A: Analogue but not in all cases. Digital is incredible because it made recording, mixing and producing accessible to everyone and allowed people with big voices but small budgets to be heard. You don't need expensive analogue equipment to make radio-ready and enormously successful music. The reason I still prefer analogue (even though I don't really own much) is the same reason I play guitar and don't use a plugin - or the same way I don't use a piano plugin and record the one I have at home. There's so much character and authenticity in the imperfections they so often produce I also find that the best way to be creative and allow yourself to flourish creatively is to limit yourself, and I sometimes get overwhelmed with the choices the digital world offers

  11. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  12. A: A Martin acoustic guitar (which I'd steal but no one would catch me if I was stranded on a desert island), 3 sets of strings and a portable audio recorder.

  13. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  14. A: Freddie Mercury, enough said.

  15. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  16. A: In my opinion, melody (especially vocal melody) is defined by what it rhythmically offers to a song. I won't go into too much detail (because I don't want to give all of my secrets away) but it's a really important aspect to great melodies which is too frequently overlooked. Lyrics play into this a lot and when writing them, you need to factor in how the accents of each word and phrase interact with the instruments of the song.

  17. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  18. A: Any and all, but my background is in music written and performed by bands.

  19. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  20. A: My ability to totally immerse myself in the emotion and energy of a song. I'm a melodically minded producer more than I am a top-line songwriter or singer. I feed off of the energy and emotion of a song (be it lyrics or instruments) and vividly describe how it makes me feel through the rhythm, notes and vocal register I use. This allows me to work with and perform in any genre I'm given and consistently deliver melodies and performances which feel natural and work well with the song.

  21. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  22. A: I have two separate set-ups, at home and studio. At home, my room is acoustically treated, I sing into a RODE NT1-A microphone into a Steinberg UR-RT4 Audio interface (with Neve transformers) into Logic Pro X. - This is where I record all of my melodies and instruments. To record my vocals, I rent a vocal booth in a studio to make use of the exceptionally well acoustically treated room and slightly better equipment. I mix my vocals using a blend of Logic's fantastic stock plug-ins and some premium 3rd Party plug-ins

  23. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  24. A: If ever I feel creatively lost I turn to Jacob Collier for inspiration. I feel like it hits a reset button in my mind because his understanding of harmony is considerably beyond my own.
