Andreas Voie Juliebø on SoundBetter

Scandinavian sounding session drummer and percussionist laying down organic and unique sounding beats and sounds for your track. I have my own recording studio where I can provide kits, percussions and electronic sounds for your record. Mostly known for my unique dark and huge sounds, as well as subtle and soft touches.

Touring around with several norwegian artists has inspired me to get on doing my own recordings. I have a vibey little drum studio in a collective of other studios, where I also have a huge live room I can use for recordings needing that big room. I have a variety of drums (vintage and new), mics and outboard, as well as a good bunch of in-the-box plug-ins.

I'll lay down drums, percussion and electronic drums. Providing you with a variety of different sounds and tracks to choose form. All files will be sent both processed and unprocessed so that you can adjust to your liking.

I play mostly Gretsch drums and Diril Cymbals, but I have some lovely Beverly and Slingerland drums too and a huge collection of snares.

I also offer to do podcast and dialogue editing and mixing.

Would love to hear from you. Click the contact button above to get in touch.

    Incredible groove!
Andreas absolutely feels the song, and adds a unique flavour to it.
And those deep sounds, there is something very natural about them.
Like when you are done listening to the song, you are starting over just to listen to those drums cause they sound great.

Interview with Andreas Voie Juliebø

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: It was truly inspiring working with Kristian Kristensen first tours, building a massive live show and production together with some of my closest friends and colleagues and traveling around whole Norway with this playing for sold out houses. Truly fun, then moving into the studio to record some of the songs after.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Currently I'm working on a few tunes for a few of my close friends and producers, while excitingly waiting for my first clients here.

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: I will put my heart out and do my best to create something unique and authentic for your record!

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: I love being able to dig into a song or record and really compliment the lyrics, melody and arrangement with drums and percussion, being creative around some great work is truly inspiring!

  9. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  10. A: Can you record your vibe and sound on this record? - Of course!!

  11. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  12. A: Not sure, that I'm not a viking? Or maybe I am?

  13. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  14. A: What vibe do you want and whats the intentions behind the song?

  15. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  16. A: Carl-Victor Guttormsen is a great producer, guitar player and songwriter I've been lucky to do some work for!

  17. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  18. A: Both - because they both have their ups and downs!

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Have a simple stereo-file ready to send and I'm also happy if you have any references or paths you want to go. If not I'm happy to provide my take on the song/production.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: A 4-piece drum kit and nice beer.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I started out in the local school band, playing marches and band-tunes, starting with the bass drum (time-keeping) and moving up (or down?) to the snare then gradually doing more and more kit. At high school I started playing very actively in bands and before graduating I almost failed because I was busy playing gigs. Studied drums in Liverpool for three years and moved back to Oslo where I've been for 5-6 years now. Love touring and have been all over Norway, UK and Spain touring with several inspiring artists. Met a lot of great friends on the way, that I'm happy to still work with.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Unique and musical

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I'd love to work with Justin Vernon and the guys in Bon Iver as they are pushing boundaries within music production, sound design and songwriting. Also I'd love to work with Ryan Adams, as he never seams to make a bad record. I love his organic and authentic rock vibe.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Always have that extra kit-mic that you can F**K UP, like running through distortion and effects and blend-in.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Mostly indi-pop and folk-pop. I've done everything from huge folk-productions (read Bon Iver, Highasakite etc.) to intimate folk-blues/pop (read Foy Vance, Ben Howard). I also love to go back to my roots with blues and rock, such as Ryan Adams, Mark Knopfler, Joe Bonamassa and The War On Drugs.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My strongest skills must be creating dynamic and dramatic drum-parts. I love creating big toms and huge sounds, as well as the intimate, dampened and soft beat.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: My focus is always the vocals, the vocal performance and songwriting when I play drums. I hope that I can bring a musicality in the beat, a unique vibe that resonate in a organic, Scandinavian vibe.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: Normally I'll get sent a stereo file with and without drums and specs on samplerate, tempo etc. Then I'll record kits, single drums, percussion, program electronic drums and whatever feels good for the track and I'll bounce all these files out both processed (with and without effects) and unprocessed for the client to adjust to his/hers liking.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I have a medium sized room where I do most of my recording. The room is very vibey where it has a stone wall on one side and padded wood-walls on the other. Its not perfect dead, but has a really cool drums sound. I also have access to a shared live room. This is a huge room making it possible to get that big-room-sound, even though I'm able to get that pretty much in my own room.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I really love what Carter McLean and Ash Soan is doing. They sound incredible and play really good. Very inspiring to follow them on Instagram.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I do a lot of different stuff, but often I get asked to design a kit and drum-sound for a song/production where I'll record both kit and all sorts of weird percussion to complement the "package".
