Real Basslines for real people. I work live and in the studio and have been lucky to play with Grammy winners & nominees, also BRIT & ECHO awarded artists. I am the author of RnB Bass Library for Loopmasters.com

You need fantastic sounding bass lines with great feel and warmth for your songs and projects? I can provide modern and vintage Electric Bass, Fretless Bass, Upright Bass or Moog Synthbass for you. I am a working bassist for more than 25 years, playing live shows from big arenas to the smallest clubs all over the world and I am constantly doing recordings in all kinds of genres.

I will record in my studio using mostly my old Fender P-Basses, Jazzbasses or a nice thumpy Höfner all from the golden early 60's era. Or you prefer modern bass sounds from a Lakland 5-Strg, a 90's Ken Smith "RnB's favourite" or a tight Musicman Stingray from the 70's, a jazzy Double Bass or a Rockabilly Slap...? Anything that suits your songs!

I will reamp through vintage Ampeg B15 or SVT amps, can go through various EFX Pedals like old and new Fuzzes, Octavers, Moogerfoggers, Phasers, etc. and Synths Moog Voyager, Prodigy & Minitaur, Oberheim Matrix 1000... Using Vovox cables, BAE DMP & UA LA610 preamp, Noble and REDDI Tube DI's. Mics from Neumann, Electrovoice, Sennheiser, Mojave and into an UAD Apollo MkII.

Please contact me and we can talk about your needs, ideas and expectations. I read music, but I don't have to. I am easy to deal with and will react quick to your inquiry. I love to hear your songs and will always offer my best work and passion for a great feeling and fat sounding bass!

Would love to hear from you. Click the contact button above to get in touch.

Great groove and playing. But seriously Fantastic studio quality tone! I wanted to try something different and he gave me two extra takes/reviisons to work with. Also gave me two different tones(DI + AMP). don't compromise with your bass sound and go for Bjorn.

Best bassist on this planet. Best sound, best groove, best guy. If I could eat his bass-playing, I would do it. If you want to do yourself a favour book Bjoern. Sounds pathetic but isn't. We just played on recordings for Alice Merton, Mogli lately or Joss Stone in the past. He is the best. Live and recorded.

Björn is an absolute kick a** bass player, very versatile and very unique at the same time. He knows how to lay down a bass line like nobody else, and he's such a gentle and friendly person. You can't get around him, if you're looking for a bass player.
He's my first call for live as well as for studio work.

Björn is as amazing on bass as he is as a person: absolutely positive and supporting, with a great natural sense of what is right for the song. He is the whole package, it does not really get any better.

I have worked with Bjoern for over 10 years in the Berlin/German/E.U. music scene and I can authentically say that he is one of the most musically proficient (all styles and on all incarnations of the bass—electric, fretless, upright and moog), as well as one of the most professional, and kindest people I have ever worked with—I’ve been a professional musician for over 30 years. He gets the job done efficiently and his musical choices are spot on—IF/when amendments are necessary, his egoless approach always puts the creative end result and the contentment of the client first.

Björn always has the best ideas and the phattezt sound!
He's always shown to be a master finding his place in every music and production situation with a lot of taste. Concerning musical styles, he's one of the most versatile bass players I know. Björn is also a very cool guy to hang with.

Badass Bass player. I ask him anytime I have an electric bass part in a production that needs that little extra soul and groove!
I highly recommend Björn! He's also an incredibly sweet guy to work with...

Interview with Björn Werra

  1. Q: How would you describe your style?

  2. A: James Jamerson with a modern, rockier edge. Bit of Me'shell, Tim Lefebvre and Lee Sklar in it... Fat and warm, spot on!

  3. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  4. A: I work on Pop/Rock/Soul/RnB/HipHop stuff a lot, also Jazz and Rockabilly. I am a big Reggae fan and love those basslines!

  5. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  6. A: I use vintage and modern Instruments, Fenders, MusicMan, Laklands, Höfner, Moog etc. I will record through analog preamps from BAE (Neve), Noble Amps and Universal Audio (my LA610 is specially tube modded and sounds amazing!) using my UAD Apollo Interface. I use Logic X for recording and editing.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: I will make you happy with some great basslines on your track!

  9. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  10. A: What's the direction/player/style/vibe you are thinking of and when do you need the tracks?

  11. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  12. A: I played double bass on Fran Healy's solo album. He is the singer and songwriter of the scottish group TRAVIS. That alone is pretty amazing! But while I was recording with him at Berlin's Hansa Studio he told me, at the same time Sir Paul McCartney would also contribute a track to his album - sitting in his own studio in London right now. So my name appears right next to Sir Paul's in the credits on Fran's album!!!! It's so fantastic and crazy at the same time!

  13. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  14. A: Both. It sounds different, but both worlds are great to work with. I love the tape feel but I also appreciate the modern workflow and direct sound while going digital.

  15. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  16. A: To create some great music and to help the artist or producer with their songs and projects!

  17. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  18. A: 1) My Fender Jazzbass from 1965. I got it in 1996 and it feels like a part of my body. 2) Ok, my 1961 Fender P-Bass with LaBella Flats would have to come, too. 3) The Noble DI. It just so easy and always sounds awesome! 4) Vintage EHX BigMuff Fuzz. Love that! 5) My 70s SVT head and the 8x10 cabinet - I could just play as loud as I want to on the island!

  19. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  20. A: I started playing bass as a teenager in my punkrock school band. The other guys had already picked their instruments and only the bass was left... I got into it more and more over the years and startetd studying Jazz & popular music at Hanns Eisler University in Berlin. From then on I immediately got "real" gigs and started working as a professional musician.

  21. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  22. A: I get hired as a bass player in profesional work situations like touring, clubdates or studio recordings. I'll play Electric Bass, Double Bass and Synthbass. I do a lot of live playing from the smallest club to the biggest venues. Also I have my own studio where I do recordings for various clients.

  23. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  24. A: Customer: "Can you come up with a really cool and fat bass line for my song?" Me: "Yes, of course! Looking forward to hear your tracks!"

  25. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  26. A: I have been so lucky to work with such great artist so far, it's been such a great ride. But yes, I would help out

  27. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  28. A: Listen first and then contribute what is necessary to the song. It's about your music and not about some fancy lick or whatever! Make the track come alive!

  29. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  30. A: You'll get warm and fat sounding bass tracks from me. Wether it is funky, agrresive, laid back or just what it needs to be on your song/project - people say, it brings their tracks alive and pushes it groovewise on a new level.

  31. Q: What's your typical work process?

  32. A: Clients deliver the files online. I will talk to them about their expectations and ideas. Usually I deliver a very basic track or something similiar to their demo/idea. Then add more takes with fills and different variations. If I think a track could use something else, I would offer a take from a completely different persepective as well.

Terms Of Service

You will get 2-3 tracks per song to choose and edit at your choice. One revision per track is for free. All files will be reamped through my Ampeg B15. Turnaround is 1-3 days, depending on schedule.
