I've been a musician all of my life, and have always been curious to the point of being obsessive. I was fortunate to grow up in a musical household, which sparked my interest in exploring music professionally. Piano, guitar and drums are the main instruments I've played throughout my life, later moving into the recording studio environment. I opened my first recording studio, Fatman Studios, in 2009 and it became a beacon for the independent music scene in Mexico during the 2010's. Over the last year I've worked out of Chapel Studios, mixing, remixing, and producing with bands and artists that I love and respect - from major label credits, to small new projects, it's all the same to me!

From the composition side, I love deep ambient sounds and creating vast spaces through the use of effects. I wills spend hours finding and tweaking sounds that add life to a song. From the production and mixing side, I love taking songs and re-working them, or just taking songs to the next level through mixes that are full of character and punch. I work in a hybrid setup, mixing from a DAW into analog gear and summing into an analog Neve console.

Jerry was a pleasure to work with and excellent value for money. 3 songs needed mixing and he nailed the first one straight away. Working with Jerry was a real pleasure. I sent him a very busy mix with lots of tracks to balance and some serious cleaning required. He polished everything up really professionally. The first draft was a tight, crisp, modern mix, but wasn't necessarily the sound I was looking for. Jerry listened to all of my notes, and came back with something that was literally bang on. Even after subsequent revisions, which he was happy to do, we ended up settling on that first revision. Great guy as well!

Interview with Jeronimo Quintana

Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I worked with M83 in 2011, right during the week when "Midnight City" was released, which catapulted them into the spotlight. It's like they became a big band while I was with them. They played a show that week and it was their first time playing in front of more than 2000 people. I was a recording engineer for them during that week.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I know Eduardo del Aguila, also a Mexican Mixer but with a much broader career than myself. I look up to him very much.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What emotions do you want your song to stir up in listeners?
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I will add clarity and punch to mixes, I am very diligent with my EQ. I will also add ambience and interesting soundscapes through delays and reverbs.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Rock music mostly, alternative, indie pop.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I try to empathize with the music and the artist, and try to infuse their music with more character and interesting sonics.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have some really nice vintage gear, along with some newer equipment. I have some Pultecs (EQp1A's), Couple of vintage UREI 1176 (Revisions B 'Blue Stripe', and Revision D), Neve 1073's, Neve 2254e's, Studer a80, among many other things! Burl Converters and a Neve 5060 console!
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Daniel Lanois from the production side, grew up loving The Joshua Tree and Bob Dylan. Eric Valentine from an engineering side, and Peter Katis and Michael Brauer from a Mixing side.
