Interview with Sávvi

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: They both have something to bring to the table depending on what you're looking for. As long as the mix is good it really doesn't matter how you did it though.

  3. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  4. A: Making great music with great people! It really doesn't get any better than that!

  5. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  6. A: That mixing is something that can be done quickly. Mixing takes a great deal of time to get right. Some mixes may reach the desired result faster than others, but even with great recording and sound selection it takes time to get things sounding just right.

  7. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  8. A: I like to ask clients what their vision for their sound is. Usually that consists of listening to popular commercial songs that they feel captures the overall vibe of their music, as well as listening to the rough mix.

  9. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  10. A: I started out as a musician and eventually discovered music production 8 years ago. I began to make electronic music under the name "Sávvi" and took an interest in audio engineering because of its involvement in the music production process. From there I practiced by mixing my own work, as well as songs made by friends. As I got better, word got around to many of the clients I currently have and I hope to continue to grow from here.

  11. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  12. A: Most of the time it's hip-hop and electronic music. I personally make music in those genres and my network consists of artists mostly within those genres.

  13. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  14. A: Life, energy, emotion, and clarity.

  15. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  16. A: Mainly mixing & mastering work.
