Claudio Signorile on SoundBetter

I love contributing to a song with every single note I play ! I provide a Bassline in 48 hours. My professional direction has always been to specialize in the recording of the electric Bass and this passion is reflected in my works. My recording studio is totally optimized for my work needs: high sound quality without wasting time.

Hi, my name is Claudio, from Italy. I've been a Bass player for 25 years
I want to tell you how I love to work !
What I do before recording a Bass line, is to listen carefully to the song, every detail, every nuance.
In fact, i believe that only when you know every single bar is it possible to work in the right way, to choose the right notes.

My style is near to genres like Pop/Funk/Rock/Metal, but, over 25 years, I have played a lot of different music. Exactly for this reason, I learned to play the Bass with many technique: Finger, Slap, with a Pick, etc., to adapt my sound to different situations or different requests.

I can record tracks already written, for example by an arranger, or I can create a personal bass line always trying to respect the "intention" of the song.

This is my studio equipment:
- Avalon D.I. U5 (Standard for Bass Players)
- Apogee Quartet, audio interface with a high AD/DA conversion quality. Sample rate 44100/48000/88200/96000/176400/192000 and Bitrate 16/24/36.
- Pro Tools for my recording sessions. At the end of the work I can provide the Pro tools session or the single edited Bass track.

Basses:
- Yamaha TRB5
- Fodera YY Standard
- Alusonic Custom Shop
- Mayones Be

Fx:
- Eventide delay & harmonizer
- Ebs chorus & phaser
- Boss, Digitech, Source Audio and many digital Plug in.

Really great bass player. Extremely easy to work with, listened and understood what I was asking for, and came up with some really beautiful parts. I will most definitely be working with Claudio again!

Interview with Claudio Signorile

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I'm recording an EP for a heavy metal band called Daegonian and recently I recorded a song for a Sound Better user, Danny Milivojevic.

  3. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  4. A: I always try not to overlook the melodic aspect of my bass lines. I think it is as important as the rhythmic aspect. I have been recording in my studio for over 14 years now. I learned to optimize my time. I provide a Bass line in 48 hours. Of course, to make my works better, I use the necessary time, but without losing minutes, hours, without reason. I can record, edit, process (Compression/Eq), play clean Bass or with fx such as Delay, Chorus, Harmonizer, Phaser, etc ..

  5. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  6. A: A few months ago I recorded the first EP of Phenomena. Phenomena is a progressive band I play in. It is instrumental music, with a lot of atmosphere. With my Bass lines I have contributed to the final result in a decisive way! We will soon publish the disc and update the news section ! We want you to listen to all of you !

  7. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  8. A: At the moment I am new and I have to explore this beautiful site, but soon I will update this answer !

  9. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  10. A: I prefer digital. In the world of work you have to be fast and work with uncompromising quality. Today Digital allows this. The quality of the analog is not in question but it takes much longer when working and is not always possible.

  11. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  12. A: I work with passion. For this reason I use all my energy to get a good job.

  13. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  14. A: I love to play and I love to record my Bass. I like to be creative and feel my contribution in every note I play, naturally respecting what the customer asks me.

  15. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  16. A: Generally I receive requests on the type of sound to be used or on what type of rhythm. For example, not long ago, a singer asked me to play a chorus with a rhythm that he wanted precisely. He made me listen to a song to make me understand better. OK, no problem I replied !

  17. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  18. A: Fortunately, the people who offer me to work trust me. This allows me to never have misunderstandings. In any case, when something is wrong ... I am always available to understand how to solve the problem!

  19. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  20. A: I have no specific questions. I think it's best to decide what questions to ask after being contacted for a job.

  21. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  22. A: I am a musician who does not like wasting time, because unfortunately time runs very fast ... I like to work with serious and professional people, I like to communicate my ideas and receive them.

  23. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  24. A: My 3 Basses ! I would be happy like this !

  25. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  26. A: I started like everyone ... My first bands, my first concerts, my first recordings... Then I realized that I really liked recording, being an added value when working on a song. 14 years ago I assembled my studio!

  27. Q: How would you describe your style?

  28. A: I can play bass with many different techniques (Finger, Slap, with pick) to always get the right sound in the style of the song.

  29. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  30. A: I can't name a specific name. I certainly like to work professionally and I like it when others are too

  31. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  32. A: I find it very important when working on one or more songs, of any genre, the pre production. I think that a good preparation of the work can give the right inspiration to a musician who has to record on some material. This especially if you work with distant musicians like here on SoundBetter !

  33. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  34. A: Normally I work on genres like rock, pop, funk, metal, but through my career I have played a lot of different music

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I look for the symbiosis with the battery. I love to record my bass by listening to the drummer's work first. So I can give the song the right rhythmic solidity. In a second moment I study how to be able to tie the chords together, to create melodic lines, if the song allows it.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: When I work on a piece, after careful listening I start recording the first ideas, I look for the right direction. Usually I never make bass lines too difficult. Experience has taught me that it is not necessary. But it always depends on the type of music and the demand.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: - Avalon D.I. U5 (Standard for Bass Players) - Apogee Quartet, audio interface with a high AD/DA conversion quality. I can record the Bass lines for your music, with many sample rate (44100/48000/88200/96000/176400/192000) and Bitrate (16/24/36) - Pro Tools for my recording sessions. - Handmade cable to connect all my equipment for maximum quality. No noise, no interference, etc. - Yamaha HS 50 for listening - Headphones AKG

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I love listening to great bassists like Nathan East or Pino Palladino, their solidity during the accompaniment. But I also love great soloists like Marcus Miller, Billy Shehaan, Victor Wooten and many more.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: The first job I do when I am asked to record one or more songs is to listen to the material very carefully. Every detail can help me better understand what exactly I have to record, the right notes to use. To follow this direction it is very important that there is a good Pre production of each song, whenever possible.
