Julio Rodríguez Sangrador on SoundBetter

I have worked mixing and mastering for artists such as Avicii, Cedric Gervais, Third Party and many more. I´m 100% confident I can achieve the polished, well balanced sound you are after.

Born and raised in Santander (Spain) in the early nineties, I took piano and guitar lessons across my teenage years and played in a few metal bands. It was during my time studying civil engineering that I discovered music production and got totally hooked on it, developing a taste for the more technical side of music.

After a few years producing electronic tracks, decided to take the leap and move to England and study an MSc in Music Technology at the Hertfordshire University. It was around this time when I started an internship at London´s mixing and mastering facility Wired Masters, getting a full time job there only a few months after.

During my time at Wired Masters I was trained by owners Kevin Grainger and Cass Irvine, who showed me everything they know about their craft. I had the immense pleasure of being involved in projects from artists such as Tinie Tempah, Gorgon City, Sigala, Dimitry Vegas & Like Mike, Riton, One Bit, Jax Jones, Axwell & Ingrosso, Tiesto, Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano, Robbie Rivera, Junior Sanchez, Galantis and countless others, as well as labels such as Axtone, Size, Universal, Sony, Warners, Spinnin´, Big Beat, Ultra...

After many years honing my abilities I decided to move back to Spain and go freelance in order to have full control over my life and future, startin my company Sanbay Studios. Hit me up and let´s get to work!

Julio Rodríguez Sangrador is the best mixing & Mastering engineer I have ever worked with! He didn't change the vibe of the track but he opened and fixed it! Don't search for another engineer, trust in Julio!

I met Julio 8 years ago while we were studying at University. I started to dj and produce music with him. He taught me lots of concepts of music and how to produce.

During the years we were working on our music projects together, he improved his skills to the top and decided to study music engineer in England. Few months later, he started to work on Wired Masters Studios, in London, mixing and mastering music for the best artists in the world.

Hired his services too many times for polishing my music or my label releases, he is a beast in the studio! One of the best out there!

Interview with Julio Rodríguez Sangrador

  1. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  2. A: Thinking I can take a badly written, recorded, programmed piece of music and expect me to turn it into a hit... it just doesn´t work that way

  3. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  4. A: I usually work with electronic music, but I have vast experience in working with all genres too.

  5. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  6. A: Artist´s wise, I have always been a fan of bands such as Metallica, Blind Guardian, Nirvana, Rage Against The Machine, Foo Fighters, Swedish House Mafia... On the technical side of things, I really admire the work of producers and engineers like Serban Ghenea, Kevin Grainger, Cass Irvine, Chris Lord Alge, Paul Epworth.

  7. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  8. A: Avicii´s Latest album "Tim". I started getting into music by making house tracks in 2012. I learnt about music production by watching one of Avicii´s tutorials on youtube, so being able to have credits in his latest album was really awesome to me.

  9. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  10. A: I just finished mixing "Take Me Away" by Third Party

  11. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  12. A: No

  13. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  14. A: Digital. Ease of use and speed, lack of having to recall when making mix revisions, analog sound can be modeled this days in case you need it, usability.

  15. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  16. A: I will make you happy.

  17. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  18. A: I just love the fact I can work with music for a living. Taking someone´s idea and making it reach its full potential can be incredibly addictive.

  19. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  20. A: My prices, my availability.

  21. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  22. A: Budget, style of the song, how many tracks are they looking to send me, do they want me to do the vocals (from totally dry stems), link to downloadable track in its most current state, reference song(s)

  23. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  24. A: I would say, if you have been making beats/producing your own music for not very long, then we might not be a good match. If you are a beginner you might have unrealistic espectations as to what I can achieve mixing and mastering your song, leading to disappointment at the end of the process. I like to work with artists and labels who have been doing this for a long time and always return for more!

  25. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  26. A: My guitar, a microphone, an audio interface and my laptop... Just 4 but it´s all I need!

  27. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  28. A: I have been doing this professionally for 4 years. However due to the intensity of the work I have taken part in, it feels like it should have been more!

  29. Q: How would you describe your style?

  30. A: Transparent, punchy, clear and open

  31. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  32. A: Rosalía. She is Spanish and I am too. It would be really nice to have one of her albums having been produced by spanish people in its entirety.

  33. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  34. A: Just spend more time writing good songs. Everything will come together so much better afterwards (and quicker too!)

  35. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  36. A: Other than delivering a good product, it would be reliability. I will be there for you during the time we work together and will make sure you are happy. That´s my first priority.

  37. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  38. A: In my line of work you have to stay objective. I always bring a pair of expert ears and transparent processing to give my client´s song all it needs and nothing more. My goal is always to get the track to where it needs to be without any unnecessary sugar-coating. I don´t change the vibe, I enhance it.

  39. Q: What's your typical work process?

  40. A: I always start out by paying a lot of attention to the bass and drums. Those elements are the foundation of the song and as such need to be right before adding stuff on top.

  41. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  42. A: I typically do mixing and mastering, supplying my clients with a finished product which sounds great and does not need to go to a mastering house afterwards to be finalized. I do it all.
