Simon Gordeev on SoundBetter

I'm a sound engineer, producer and musician based in Berlin, Germany. With 20 years of experience in music production, recording and mixing, I am ready to translate your visions into sound.

Being a part of music scene in Berlin, I left my audible fingerprint on live recordings by german and international artists (James Bay, Welshly Arms, Boy, Wallis Bird, Cäthe, Gisbert zu Knyphausen and many others) I produced for german TV and online music formats.

I have a mobile recording setup and a collection of microphones to capture your performance in your favorite space. You can visit me in my mixing room to do overdubs or work with me on your production.

If you are looking for devoted ears to take care of your recording, to get an independent opinion on your mix, or to give a final polish to your production, get in touch with me.

Looking forward to work with you!

I'd love to hear about your project. Click the 'Contact' button above to get in touch.

Amazing mix engineer and co-producer. Simon was not afraid to share constructive criticism and really helped make the song the best it could be. He has many other musical services such as tracking and even had a singer ready to perform some additional tracks on my project. Very highly recommended!

I loved working with Simon! I totally trust his feeling of music and what "works" in a tune. It was great to get not just a mixing guy but a co-producer!

Interview with Simon Gordeev

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I work as recording / mixing engineer and executive producer for a music video channel called UP CLOSE MUSIC. One of our first productions was the song "Promise" by Ment, a singer-songwriter from Berlin. We managed to capture a rare fragile moment, both human and super-human at the same time. I am really proud of the recording done with only one lavalier mic, and a mix that - together with the camera work - creates an illusion of being present in the room with the artist. This is music content for eternity. Watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLvR7pTPMwA

  3. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  4. A: To understand your vision I need to hear you rough mix and the tracks you want to sound like.

  5. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  6. A: Mixing can make a poorly recorded track sound great.

  7. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  8. A: What are your reference tracks?

  9. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  10. A: Producing songs for a young female singer from Berlin

  11. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  12. A: Friedrich Stoermer

  13. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  14. A: I'd take a tent, a sleeping bag, a camping cooking set, something to make fire and sun screen. Recording gear doesn't make sense there.

  15. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  16. A: I started recording my own bands back in the end of the 90ies. Worked as a mixing assistant for several years. Freelancing since 2008.

  17. Q: How would you describe your style?

  18. A: I'm more about character than about perfection

  19. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  20. A: Maintain the perspective by taking regular breaks

  21. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  22. A: I gravitate more towards hand-made music

  23. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  24. A: Delivering great recordings with minimal setups

  25. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  26. A: I have a mobile unit and a collection of microphones to record on location. In my mixing room I do overdubs and vocal recordings. I mix ITB.

  27. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  28. A: Sylvia Massey, Tchad Blake, Linda Perry, Rick Rubin, Mike Senior, Moses Schneider; Billie Eilish + Finneas, Khruangbin, Aldous Harding, This Is The Kit

  29. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  30. A: 1. Location recording and mixing of the recorded material
2. Mixing of tracks recorded by somebody else
3. Full productions starting - songwriting evaluation, preproduction, recording, mixing
