Recordist & Mastering Engineer

Gregory Mahan on SoundBetter

I’m a recordist and mastering engineer focused in voiceover production as well as classical and chamber music. I serve as the Studio A Staff Engineer at AudioLink, an audio production company outside of Boston. My work has appeared or been featured in Mix Magazine, Imagine Magazine, Boston Hassle, The Lowell Spin, and more (including a TEDx talk!)

Lowell-based audio engineer Gregory Mahan is passionate about the impact that media can have on communities and the people who inhabit them. His work varies from 100+ person orchestral recordings to one-microphone folk sessions, focusing on utilizing technology in ways that best serve the intent behind each individual project. He serves as the Studio A Staff Engineer at AudioLink, an audio production company outside of Boston that focuses on voiceover production as well as audio post for video. Gregory’s work has appeared or been featured in Mix Magazine, Imagine Magazine, Boston Hassle, The Lowell Spin, and more.

He is passionate not just about telling stories or spreading music through digital media, but the very experience of interacting with the medium in which a project is presented. This has led to a variety of installation pieces throughout the years such as Music in Motion, an interactive performance tool that used body-tracking to control a drum machine. Much of his music production work utilizes multichannel recording and mixing techniques to present pieces in surround formats such as Dolby DTS-X. He continues to research the ways that media experiences impact viewers and listeners, and has given invited lectures on the topic as well as a TEDx presentation.
