Mastering Electronic Music for Spotify

Hi I'm Jonathan!

I started producing electronic music when I was 16 and graduated in Sound and Music Production, at the age of 21. I have been mixing and mastering since then.
For your song to really shine on platforms like Spotify, it is really important that you hit the right spot between loud and dynamic. I will get you there!

Interview with Jonathan Horn

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: Hm... both have their up- and downsides. I would choose Digital because of its convenience and precision.

  3. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  4. A: I will give 100% in trying to help you achieve your vision.

  5. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  6. A: Hearing all different kinds of music.

  7. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  8. A: That I can make a bad mix sound good.

  9. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  10. A: What are your references and where will your release it?

  11. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  12. A: Speakers, laptop, my desk, Internet antenna and a whole power plant to power all this forever :D

  13. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  14. A: Started out as a music producer, got interested in the technical side of things and ended up in mastering. I've been doing this since about 2016.

  15. Q: How would you describe your style?

  16. A: Clean, loud, precise

  17. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  18. A: Noisia, because their mixdowns are AMAZING

  19. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  20. A: Staaack the layyyyerss... and use good drum samples!

  21. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  22. A: EDM, Trap, DnB, Dubstep, Techno

  23. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  24. A: Technical Listening

  25. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  26. A: The final punch. Cleaning up the details. If you want... Loudness lol.

  27. Q: What's your typical work process?

  28. A: Pretty chaotic at the start and then more specific as I get closer to the final product. I master by the rule of "no part is the best part" and "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". Essentially, if your song sounds amazing, I will tell you and change very little. If it needs some work though, I will put it in.

  29. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  30. A: I use Adam Audios A8X Monitors hooked up to a MOTU Interface. I fully work "in the box" which is why I have a custom build PC and a big 2k Screen. I use a lot of the FabFilter stuff!

  31. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  32. A: I love the sound of Sleepnet, Virtual Riot, SOPHIE, Space Laces, Lorn, Rezz, ...

  33. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  34. A: On here only mastering so far. Maybe Stem Mixing at a later stage...
