Interview with Profile User 240017

  1. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  2. A: Certainly the creative speed that allows me to close a mix in a short time without neglecting any technical aspect.

  3. Q: What's your typical work process?

  4. A: My approach to the mix is very fast and immediate, the thing that I consider important to immediately achieve a result by working 'in the box' is to order the session to rename the tracks to immediately prepare the sum and effects and parallel buses that I know I will definitely use . So I tend to get to an overall sound that satisfies me by finding the right balance between the tracks and then going on the individual groups, I hardly work in 'only' the single track, only in case there are problems and there is some tracking error to solve. Once the track is played, the creative process begins where I go to find and bring out the nuances that I want to stand out and the effects that will represent the mood of the song. I consider the mix finished once it makes me 'move' from start to finish, listening throughout the mix on multiple plays, both the professional and linear ones of the brands mentioned in the previous question, but also on more consumer devices such as cellphone headsets, bluetooth cassettes and the indisputable stereo from the car once I perceive this 'movement' and there are no problems on any listening the mix is ready.

  5. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  6. A: My studio setup is very simple, I work mainly 'in the box' with UAD emulations for this with 2 Apollo and 2 Satellite using the plug-ins on DSP I have the possibility to emulate analog mixes with the convenience of never leaving the mac. On the sides of the station there are 2 TLAudio valve banks that I mainly use in the recordig phase but which also gives me the opportunity to add and finalize the mix. One thing that I consider very important in a studio is listening, I rely on Genlec and Focal for monitors, Ollo Audio and Beyrdynamic for headphones.

  7. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  8. A: I want to mention the two professional figures in which I most reflect myself in the method and workflow and that I had the pleasure of meeting personally. As for the mix phase, CLA is definitely the mixing technician to whom I am most inspired by the setting of the mix and the approach to it, the thing I most admire about Chris is the immediacy in arriving immediately at a I ended up, always with the same imprint and color even between different genres; versatile but without losing your personality. As for mastering and to mention an Italian excellence for international music, Luca Pretolesi surely perfectly embodies my method for treating a song: there are no rules, on the contrary, always experiment without neglecting the foundations of the technique and the fundamental rules but create new, in search of original and innovative techniques always to give music something more, that little nuance that may seem purely technical to many but which will make the difference once the song is listened to by millions of people.

  9. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  10. A: I mixed both completely analog and completely digital but the best mixes are the ones where I could combine the two, in fact I don't have a preference; however I had to do without one of the two forever it would be the analogue, of course not for a matter of sound but because the direction of music production is that of digital. The production process exploits any benefit of new technologies and it would be difficult to go back or even interface the process of composition and digital production with that of the analogue post, any modification would be too cumbersome and would conflict with the times and costs at which the music industry is used to it and has made us used to it.

  11. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  12. A: At an amateur level I started around 16 years of mixing the first things for friends, I delivered the first real works published at the age of 19, now I am 21 and since I graduated from the SAE Institute in September 2019 I started working in full-time studio.
