Interview with Tony Sarno

Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I typically use a very simple setup,-basically a portable rig with a MacBook Pro running Logic Pro X and and a Lexicon interface. When the budget allows, I will record at Sound Emporium studios in Nashville, which has everything under the sun and a track record of many hit records.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Bass player Mark Coradetti.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Pre-production for my third blues record.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Dee Archer "sooner or later". I co-produced with Craig Krampf, wrote songs, played a bunch of guitars, and sang some background vocals. It just sounds great, with very cool rock songs.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Blues Rock, Hard Rock, Country Rock.

A: Can you Rock? Yes.

A: Keep it simple, make it fun.

A: Telecaster Martin D45 Naylor Super Club 38 Amp Laptop, mics, and Interface Solar generator
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I'll make it sound good. From a whisper to a roar, it's going to rock.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I will get a general vibe of the song, and then record 4 or 5 tracks and see which direction the client wants to go.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Analog, but it's rare these days.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love music.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: It's easy.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: First real gig was in New York City with Peter Tork. We played Monkees songs in the style of Hard Rock. I was then the singer/guitarist for the Dutch Band "Hollander" on CBS records.Then toured with singer David Clayton Thomas of Blood, Sweat, and Tears. Then gigged extensively with my own band doing shows with B.B. King, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Hall and Oates, Johnny Winter and others. Producer Rodney Mills recorded my band in Atlanta. Started The Thunderhawks in Nashville with bass player Keith Christopher and guitarist Eddy Shaver. Recorded "It's a blues thing" in Memphis. Recorded "Thunderhawks" in Nashville. Produced (with Craig Krampf) Dee Archer "Sooner or Later" and my solo Album "Tony Sarno. Resident artist at Bose; touring the world to demonstrate their new L1 sound system for working musicians. Toured Argentina as well as Australia three times, Produced "Highway Blues" for Big Fish Audio. Played guitars and produced a lot of demos along the way.
