Interview with Earl Cohen

  1. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  2. A: I will work on a song to make it appealing to as many people as possible. I want to emotionally move the world with your music but focus on the identity and sound so you stand out next to the best out there.

  3. Q: What's your typical work process?

  4. A: I will start by getting to know the artist. Getting on a Skype call and sharing musical ideas back and forth until I see a clear vision for you. This way I can understand what to create for you as the artist. I enjoy meeting new people face to face. It's a great way to start to get to know you and see your responces when we share ideas back and forth. I find everyone is so different and it's so important to me to understand who you are before we record a note.

  5. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  6. A: Be yourself and not sound like everyone else. This will give you the best odds to me of being noticed and standing out next to the other artists out there.

  7. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  8. A: I have everything I need to make and deliver hit sounding records.

  9. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  10. A: Zedd, Max Martin, Finneas, 30 Seconds To Mars, Adelle, Drake, Pink, Billie Eilish, George Martin, The Beatles, Halsey, Paramore, Madonna. Peter Gabriel, The Motown Sound, and the list goes on...

  11. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  12. A: New Brian McKnight record, 20-year artist out of Nashville, A Ep for an artist out of Canada -, Have an artist flying in the coming month from London to start her Ep, and a few new acts from SRG/Universal records to start in March of 2020.

  13. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  14. A: Probably The Lady Gaga project. {The Fame record} Just cause no one saw it and I mean no one got her talent but just a couple of us. It was so exciting to watch first-hand her rising to stardom. I worked on about 30 songs for about 2 years only got a couple of engineering credits. But it was unbelievable to see that happen to her. Other than that there are too many cause I enjoyed working with so many artists threw my career I wouldn't know where to begin. My Role: Producer, Engineer, Mixer.

  15. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  16. A: No

  17. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  18. A: Both... Cause growing up working with analog and a few tracks to where we are now with great converters in a digital medium its awesome to me. No wearing of tape... And having great analog gear to record with and sending into digital never wears and just stays the same. Mixing alone is incredible. We use to have 5 people on the console trying to make moves for an 8 section. Now I can spend as much time and get everything just right where I want it.

  19. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  20. A: You'll Love It. If you're not happy then It's no good to me. After all, you have to go out and sing this every night. You have to love it.

  21. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  22. A: Creating and crafting a new sound for an artist. Watching and hearing back their response once the song is finished. I enjoy making the artist happy and creating something special for them.

  23. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  24. A: How Much? Answer - Too Much.. haha Actually I'm always willing to try to work out a rate that can work for both of us.

  25. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  26. A: How long the process takes getting a record done start to finish. And can I shop there project to record companies? That's a subject that is tricky for me cause I can and know so many people but I need to feel your ready as an artist and we have a sound with hit records, your a great live performer and the list goes on and on but very possible If I feel you can best next big star.

  27. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  28. A: Who Are You?

  29. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  30. A: Know who you are as an artist... And have your managers and financial backers help you to promote what we are working on to get you noticed to the world out there.
