Derrick was a pleasure to work even when my project encountered obstacles which put us weeks behind. Derrick was patient and accommodating. I believe Derrick’s contribution will be apart of the project’s success, and I am grateful. L.

Interview with Derrick Stevenson

  1. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  2. A: My studio set up is in home centrally powered by an Apple Mac Pro tower running the HD/Ultimate version of Avid Pro Tools. We have a choice of converters from Apogee Symphony MK I & MKII that we use for multi-tracking along with a few outboard pres for inputs (API, Burl, Focusrite, True Systems, Black Lion, Warm Audio, Midas, Rupert Neve, etc), also the Prism Sound Lyra 2 for recording, and finalizing mixes, UAD Apollo MKII Twin & Satellite for plug-in hosting, and Dangerous summing. Adam A7X and Yamaha NS-10m Studio speakers are used for room monitoring.

  3. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  4. A: I am inspired by quite a few producers and engineers. I feel like you can grab nuggets from others, and blend it with yours to enhance or even create your own gumbo of ideas, lol. Producers such as Timbaland, Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins, Warryn Campbell, Luther "Mano" Hanes, David Foster, Joe "Flip" Wilson, Bobby Sparks etc. etc. etc. ......Engineers such as John Jaszcz, Danny Duncan, Kevin Davis, Steve Bracey, Jon Blass, and many more....way many, inspire me to continue to press for better, and to become one of the best!

  5. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  6. A: The most common type work I do is recording and mixing for clients. We get quite a few drum and vocal sessions, and sometimes full band. Most of the mixes come in from clients who have already done their own personal recordings, however some clients do choose to stay "in house" until completion of their projects.
