I have worked with Samuel on multiple occasions and he has an extraordinary ability to understand what elements an artist wants within a track. He can create a professional and accurate recreation of an artists mental ideas using his knowledge and skill of sound design, melody and harmony. Aside from being a fast and efficient producer, you can rest assured that your song will be professionally mixed and mastered to radio standard. He has been taught by industry professional sound engineers, who are within his family, and shows their passed on wisdom accurately in his own work. 5 stars.

Interview with Samuel Cosentino-Hunter

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: A remix for AVEC - Home. Was made with my identical twin in four days and came together as a really funky house track. We produced the whole thing including engineering and mastering it. (The Vocals were taken from the original).

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: A dub track, and a film score.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Andrei Sora - Incredibly versatile and will give you his best and only his best.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital, versatility and portability.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: The end result will be my all.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Collaborating with people I may have never met otherwise. What the union of two minds create!

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Can you mix and master? Yes just as well as I can produce.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That making beats is what a producer does.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What is their vision for the song, what do they want it to achieve.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Listen to their music, have a chat with them, make sure you connect and have a similar vision.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Laptop (although it counts as infinite pieces of gear), Mouse, 88 Key Midi Keyboard, Logic Pro X, Waves Bundle.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I've always been drawn to music as my family have been involved in the industry. I started making tunes when I was around 10 years of age and it's been quite a journey in understanding who I am as a person and what it is i like to make.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Phat and rhythmic, I love playing with rhythm though melody or drums and making things sound big and spacey or tight and fat.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Vulf - They are the most genuine band and can pull out the most funky S&*T in existence.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Everyones gone searching for the "right reverb" and it's taken them on an irritating journey. Try adding a low cut around 300Hz and high cut around 5000Hz to your reverb - also add a subtle delay to the end of your reverb and you can fine tune the length.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: It can be anything, it usually involves something electronic.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Creating ideas that fit the musical narrative and using them to aid the songs expressiveness.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: My expertise as an electronic producer, engineer, and instrumentalist. I've been in the scene for 10 years and have explored a huge variety of styles from electropop to rock.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: Get in the ideas first, then arrange then come back and polish everything. To get a good feel for the track, I do a bit of sound design when creating Ideas to get a better feel for the vibe and where It wants to journey too.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I use all digital processing equipment apart from a ZEDi10 FX Desk which has some really nice FX on it. The Roland SH-09 Bass synth adds extra analog phatness to my sound design. I have a few condensor mics: the Neumann TLM 102 which works miracles on everything, SE 2200a Condensor for added stereo width, SM58 can basically be used for anything, RCF ART 705as Sub Monitor If I'm mixing electronic tracks, Hofner electric bass guitar, electric guitars, and probably every other oriental world instrument you can think off.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I take inspiration from many sources, for electronic production - Jonas Aden/Mr Bill/Marten Horger/Daft Punk. For pop I look to producers such as Oak Felder, and artists like London Grammar/Bruno Mars/Mark Ronson/John Mayer. When it comes to funk, Stevie/Herbie/Prince/Parliament. There's no limit to my inspiration, If I'm digging a nice vocal reverb then I'll listen to JB just to hear how the vocals are produced. I apply this concept to all areas of music.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Definitely producing, I have a musicians background, my knowledge in understanding different instruments makes me fit for creating sound and melodies.
