Everything to make the song better. I believe that the role of bass within a song is to glue everything together.

I have been playing bass for the last 12 years. While studying at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance in London i have gathered a large palette of sounds & styles I can play. I love groovy yet melodic bass lines - soul (Motown)/ pop (John Mayer, Beatles, Tame Impala)/ alternative rock (Arctic Monkeys, Kings of Leon)

I started my originals band (The Kryptonite Sparks) almost 10 years ago (where I play bass, produce and write songs), and have had the opportunity to learn a lot about the way a bassline has to flow in order to work within the song.

I don't have an endless list of credits, however I have a lot of patience, skill, time and willingness to do my best for your project.

It was a true pleasure working with Rares and his band Kryptonite Sparks. They delivered two excellently produced songs and gave me the freedom to run with my first mix pass, collaborating the rest of the way. Communication was top notch and their vision was clear throughout the process and we ended up with results we can all be proud of. Highly recommended!

Professional attitude and very easy to work with. Rares quickly recorded exactly the kind of bass line that I had in mind, with a great sound quality. Highly recommend!

Interview with Rares Diaconu

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: Being in self-isolation has enabled me tor work more on new music. Currently I'm writing songs and recording demos for my band's full length album. It's adventurous and fun!

  3. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  4. A: Well I think that the only thing I can promise is that I will do my best to get a great result and a bass line that you will love!

  5. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  6. A: Considering there would be no electricity on the island I'd go for an acoustic guitar, a piano (the question didn't say anything about me lugging the gear to the island, hah), an acoustic bass, a harp and a saxophone. I've no clue how the last two work, but I would certainly have plenty of time to learn.

  7. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  8. A: I think a good bass line should work to serve the song.

  9. Q: What's your typical work process?

  10. A: I like to listen to the track a few times and try to get a feel for what the bass line might sound like, and then I play along -> record. I typically try a few different ideas/directions so that the artist is able to pick her/his favourite.

  11. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  12. A: I have quite a wide variety of basses which go into a tube DI (REDDI) -> AMS Neve 1073 -> UAD Apollo 16.

  13. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  14. A: I've grown up influenced by Flea and Victor Wooten, as well as fantastic songwriters such as Roger Waters, David Gilmour, John Mayer, Alex Turner. Right now I love Pino Palladino, James Jamerson, George Porter Jr (of The Meters), Kevin Parker, Kings of Leon.
