If you need piano added to your tracks, I can help! With over 25 years experience in rock/acoustic/folk/singer-songwriter genres, I have recorded piano and keyboards on hundreds of songs that have been heard millions of times! From full-on rocky through to mellow and vibey, I can provide bespoke piano/keys parts that will lift your songs!

I have my own recording studio equipped with a wonderful Yamaha U1 acoustic piano and great microphones, preamps & converters - as well as a large collection of piano sample libraries, organs and synths. If you send me your song(s), I can work to your brief to create sensitive parts that will add depth and colour to your production. Preferred genres: acoustic, singer-songwriter, rock, funk, folk, gospel.

I also work as a producer and have many artists working at my studio 'North Brighton Recording' here in the UK, so I'm well acquainted with the importance of finding great musical parts that fit your production and suit your song. I also have background in worship and church music and have played at many large events and conferences over the years.

Contact me for more details and pricing. Creating a part with MIDI and a piano sample will be cheaper than recording the real piano etc.

Mike was really easy and professional to deal with. He quickly understood what I was looking for and nailed the parts first time. He also added ideas of his own that made a significant improvement to the music. Highly recommend and would work with him again tomorrow.

It was a pleasure working with Mike. Super professional, a very timely delivery, and nailed it on the first shot. Managed to incorporate the feel and emotions of the song. Very easy communication. Go ahead and hire him for your project!

Mike did an amazing job! I asked him to create a piano piece using the three chords I provided him. Which wasn't much and he managed to turn it into a masterpiece. Which is exactly what I was looking for. He was very kind, professional, and got back to me in no time.

Interview with Mike Sandeman

  1. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  2. A: After leaving school, I toured with a band for a year - mostly playing in schools around the UK. I then worked in a music shop selling keyboards for a while before going full-time as a keyboard player with a CCM band called Phatfish from 1994 to 2014! I learned a lot in those 20 years - playing to many thousands of people and selling thousands of albums. I had a small studio at home, but in 2015 I moved to a bigger place and started the studio as a full-time business. I now work with many artists in my home town of Brighton, UK which is a very Bohemian town full of artists and musicians!

  3. Q: How would you describe your style?

  4. A: Fluid, balanced, subtle when necessary or in-yer-face if that's what's required!

  5. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  6. A: Sting - my musical hero since about 1990! (Not the only one though!)

  7. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  8. A: Don't always quantise stuff 100% - it's mice to have a little 'humanity' in the playing - especially in acoustic music. However, that should not be an excuse for being sloppy or out of time!

  9. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  10. A: Singer-songwriter and acoustic stuff - I love mellow tracks that have space to let the sounds breathe and sound rich, but I also love an up-beat stomper!

  11. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  12. A: Piano playing

  13. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  14. A: Colour, strength, creativity, quirkiness if appropriate, energy.

  15. Q: What's your typical work process?

  16. A: When I client sends a track for me to work on, I'll listen to it for a while then start experimenting with piano or keyboard ideas that I think suit the mood and feel of the piece. It's usually relatively quick to come up with some good basic ideas, but I'll often take quite a while honing and perfecting the parts before sending them back to the client for approval. I'm passionate about getting it just right!

  17. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  18. A: I have a two-room studio with live and control rooms. I work a lot with band and singer-songwriters - recording, producing and mixing their work. I have a lovely Yamaha piano that I've learned how to capture at its best with some nice Neumann mics that I use. I have three different Universal Audio Apollo units and loads of their amazing plugins. I record using Logic Pro.

  19. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  20. A: Jacob Collier, Cory Henry, Stevie Wonder, and Laura Mvula are just a handful of the musicians who inspire me. Micheal Brauer is an inspiring mix engineer and I love the production work of Al Schmitt and Jacquire King.

  21. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  22. A: I often play piano parts for singer-songwriters that I work with in my studio - North Brighton Recording, I have also been asked to add keys for band recordings and program synth parts.
