Brandon Smith on SoundBetter

Hi I'm Brandon. I'm a songwriter, music producer and mixing engineer. I produce and release music under the name Pets Like Pets and I also love to collaborate with other producers, vocalists and songwriters. Let's make something awesome together!

Genres I work in most are electronic, pop, and chill but I love blending styles as well.

Online services include: electronic programming of all instrumentation (drums, bass, keys), songwriting, top-line writing, harmony writing, lyric writing and arrangement. If you have a way to record your own vocals, I can produce a full and complete track around them. I can even help you understand what gear you would need to get the best recording at home. Songwriting splits are agreed upon before the project starts and are typically 50/50 or a third for a word.

If you'd prefer to come to the studio, services include the above plus recording the artist's performance of: vocals, guitar, bass, or any other acoustic instrument the artist brings. Currently I don't offer acoustic drum set recording. I use Universal Audio plug-ins so I can emulate the same expensive outboard gear that much higher end studios use to get fantastic results on your record.

If you're a singer/songwriter and have a song completely written (chords, arrangement & top-line) and your parts can be recorded in just a few takes, typically a track can be produced in as little as one to two studio days, depending on the number of additional instruments you want me to add. The more complex the project, the longer it takes. See terms of service below for details. I look forward to hearing from you!

Interview with Brandon Smith

  1. Q: How would you describe your style?

  2. A: Go with the flow but serve the song.

  3. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  4. A: As many serious and driven artists as possible.

  5. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  6. A: Gain staging!

  7. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  8. A: Typically pop format electronic music from pop, dance, chill and instrumental.

  9. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  10. A: Staying open minded and serving what's best for the song.

  11. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  12. A: I bring my years of classical piano training and drum training along with the ability to construct top lines out of chord progressions or just acapella. Combining those helps me craft full productions ready to master and release.

  13. Q: What's your typical work process?

  14. A: Typically it starts with a lyric but it also can start with inspiration from an instrument. Then things go from there.

  15. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  16. A: I'm an "in the box" producer meaning I tend to work mostly digital. I lean towards Universal Audio plug-ins for most scenarios which provides a much more analog sounding result.

  17. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  18. A: The Beach Boys, Depeche Mode, Sade, The Eagles, Seal, Alanis Morisette, Pink Floyd, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Zedd, Tycho, The Black Keys, Miami Horror, Kacey Musgraves, Maren Morris, Tove Lo, Kylie Minogue, Dragonette,

  19. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  20. A: I most often song-write, produce and mix music. I take lyrics and craft chords, top line, choose instruments, perform parts and shape the format of a song. I also provide mixing services, usually for songs I produce.
