Interview with Thor Bremer

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Realms by Nine Worlds Ensemble. It's our newest album, which was released April 2020. I composed, arranged, played mallet percussion, produced, and mixed all of the music. I believe it's my strongest writing to date.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I am working on indie games, sample development, slot machines, original music, drum recording, and teaching.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: Digital. The flexibility is necessary for me, and in 2020 digital sounds great.

  7. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  8. A: Take the time to look over and get to know someone's style. Make sure they're the right fit for you.

  9. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  10. A: I've had a long and winding career. I have been a working professional drummer and percussionist for the past 15 years, and working as a professional composer for the past 5. I have been writing original music for 15 years, and decided in 2016 to move from doing composition purely as a personal passion project to bringing my skills to serve others' visions.

  11. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  12. A: It seriously changes just about every week, if not every day! In the last few months I've done: dark gothic orchestra, Final Fantasy Tactics-inspired, German polka, Indie Rock, Mariachi, Pirate music, happy advertisements, and more! I love the variety.

  13. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  14. A: Creativity. I can find unconventional solutions, and I always look for a different way to approach music and sound, making what I do sound like me.

  15. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  16. A: Custom-built PC with a Focusrite interface, a collection of mics (I love the Slate gear), Event and Avantone monitors, a vast assortment of instruments, plugins, interfaces, and sound and sample libraries.

  17. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  18. A: I will work until you are satisfied with the project.

  19. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  20. A: I don't have a specific answer to this question, but I like working with artists with vision, great communication, and a unique voice of their own.

  21. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  22. A: Many years of experience and working with incredible musicians as well as a keen ear for arrangement and composition. I like to find unconventional solutions to problems, whether it's an interesting instrument, harmony, melody, or a unique sound design idea.

  23. Q: What's your typical work process?

  24. A: Brainstorm, Planning, Experimenting, Sketching, Arranging, Mixing/Production, Delivery Some of these

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: It's a giant melting pot of influences.

  27. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  28. A: The arrangement is the most important thing. Get that right and all of your mixing is a lot easier.

  29. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  30. A: Composition: Jason Graves, Masashi Hamauzu, Revo Drums: Antonio Sanchez, Thomas Lang
