Interview with Dru The Drummer
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Energetic, and always focused on the song. If you want something simple, I can do it. If you want crazy, I can do that too 🤘😄🤘
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with The Chainsmokers. Their music is so groovy and there is so much room for great drum ideas! Also I would love to drum for the Foo Fighters because their music is so hard hitting and fun
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I worked on a rock project where I co-wrote every song. I recorded 7 drum tracks in one day, and the last song took me forever to get it right. I must have played that song 25 times hahaha. It was a stressful time, but that last song ended up being played on MTV and I couldn’t have been happier when it aired.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Currently I’m finishing a killer pop rock EP for a client!
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Yes, I know some great vocalists, guitarist and producers!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: These days, I’m mostly digital. I love the warm sound that we can get with analog recordings, but when we need to get things done quickly, digital is the way to go. Plus, there is so much fun you can have with processing and experimentation when you go digital. The possibilities are endless!
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise you that I will send you a drum track that will make your song great 😄
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love that I can take an artist’s vision and make it a reality! It’s so rewarding when an artist says “hey, can you give me a feel like xxxx drummer on this?” and I am able to deliver.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: “What if I don’t like it?” Just let me know and we will make it right! “How fast can I get my drum tracks?” I typically deliver up to 5 tracks in 7 days, and 10 tracks in 14 days. I can do a rush order if it’s an emergency
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That it’s easy 😂
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: How many songs are in your project? What’s your inspiration? Who would you love to sound like?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Try to have a few drummers or songs in mind that you are imagining for your project. This will give me a great starting point to start building your drum track!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My MacBook, my speakers, a kick drum, a snare drum, and a hi-hat
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been drumming for over 20 years. As a drummer, I have signed record deals, toured all over the United States, worked with Grammy winning producers, and have recorded drums for songs that were played on MTV, TBS, and TLC!
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Drummers: hit drums hard, and hit cymbals quietly! When you hit cymbals quietly, it really allows them to shine. When we hit cymbals too hard, it kills the brilliance of the cymbal and makes the drum track sound less alive
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop, rock, hard rock/metal, and country
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is definitely my attention to detail. I don’t take short cuts and will always put the time and work into a project until is right.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: For drum tracks, I bring 20 years of professional drumming experience, lots of energy, and a very strong focus on what the song needs. Sometimes less is more!
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I like to keep it simple. Send me your song, I follow up with a few questions about what you need, and I get to work! I have a 7 day turnaround for your project. I can process the drums and make them sound great, or send you the raw files if you prefer. I offer up to 3 revisions on drums and always stay in contact throughout the process to make sure you get what you need.

Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: As a drummer, I love Steve Jordan (John Mayer) John Moffet (Michael Jackson) Rich Redmond (Jason Aldean), and Travis Barker (Blink 182). For me, these drummers are my favorite because of the energy and feel that they bring to every song that they play.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I am a studio drummer! I primarily record drums for artists in my home studio. I record singles, EP’s, and full length albums depending on the artist’s need. Occasionally I record on projects for TV & film as well.
