Interview with Francisco Martínez

  1. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  2. A: Have a structure of work based on your own times with the music

  3. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  4. A: Tango, classical and folklore

  5. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  6. A: I play with others

  7. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  8. A: I think I can bring the language and the colours of the music I have deeply studied to a song; tango and argentinian folklore.

  9. Q: What's your typical work process?

  10. A: Depends of what I need to do. If the arrengement is already done, I like to play it one time and identify the gaps. Then I would work on them until the piece is ready to be recorded. If I had to write the bandoneon over a song I would listen to it, learn the harmony and the melody, improvise over the song and make myself and outline of what ideas are working on it. After that I can make and arrengement that I'm sure will sound nice. For composing it's the same thing, only that the start point it's not a song, but a musical idea; a rythm, a chord progresion, a melody or a mixture of it all. Then, the process of composing get mixed with the process of arranging

  11. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  12. A: It's very simple; a nice room, my Mac Book, My Tascam and my bandoneon.

  13. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  14. A: As a bandoneonist, composer and arranger, Astor Piazzolla. As a session musician, Yamandú Costa

  15. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  16. A: I'm usually asked to arrange and play bandoneon sections of one or several songs.
