Best engineer I have ever met in my life. He understands everything, his creativity is crazy. I've been in the game for a while and been in the studio with all different types of big names -- yet still learned the most from this guy right here and felt the most comfortable with my craft with him.

This dude is crazy creative and professional. He can do it all. If you need a studio to record at, Alphaman can host it. If you need someone to mix and master, Alphaman can do it. His quality is one of the best around. If you don’t like how something is done, he will keep working with you until it’s right. He’ll also give you his opinion on your work if you ask for it which can be helpful if you want an idea of how others will hear it. He is definitely one of my main contacts for music projects.

Interview with Mason Wyatt

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: The track featured on my page is a song I tracked and fully engineered and rapped on.

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: I think a mixture of both is necessary. Digital recordings can have a greater signal-to-noise ratio depending on the bit depth of the recording. The smooth analog signal matches the recorded sound wave better than the steps of a digital recording.

  5. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  6. A: What software do I use? Did I go to school? How long have I been making music? I tell them I use Pro Tools 12, I went to school and graduated, and I've been producing music for 5 years. I've been writing songs since I was 10 years old.

  7. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  8. A: Most people don't exactly understand what is involved when making a song that can potentially be heard on the radio. They think it's this quick process where you go into a studio, record and be done. Not at all!

  9. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  10. A: What's your style of genre? Which artist is your biggest influence? How do you want to sound overall?

  11. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  12. A: Always trust your gut feeling when it comes to your music. Never settle for less. Hire people who has just as much passion as you! Not people just trying to make a buck.

  13. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  14. A: I love computers and I love music. I work with CNC (Computer Numerical Controlled) machines at work, then I get to come home and work in my studio.

  15. Q: How would you describe your style?

  16. A: My style is constantly evolving. I would describe it as a dark and edgy style. It's very emotional.

  17. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  18. A: As far as mainstream artists, Drake for sure. He's a perfectionist and businessman. He focuses on making bonafide hits. I can learn so much from him and his producer 40.

  19. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  20. A: Always get the recording and tracking precise. A lot of producers will say, "Oh, we'll just fix it in the mix." Wrong! You can't make up for a bad performance in a mix. The better the performance, the better the mix will sound. It's a technical/creative process. No step is less important than the other steps.

  21. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  22. A: My strongest skill is tracking and mixing a song. I like to take my time on my mixes. The more time you spend on a mix and focus on detail, the better it will sound. The more I mix, I get much better and faster.

  23. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  24. A: I use the Yamaha HS8's for monitoring. I use Pro Tools 12 software for mixing and mastering my music. I make my beats and instrumentals in the Native Instruments Maschine software. I have the Maschine beat controller and the Komplete Kontrol S61 midi keyboard. I use the Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 3rd generation as my interface. I use an AKG C414 large-diaphragm microphone. I have a custom Sweetwater music and video production PC workstation (Windows 10). Of course my equipment is subject to change and/or increase throughout my career.

  25. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  26. A: I'm currently working on building my name as a hip-hop and pop producer.

  27. Q: What's your typical work process?

  28. A: Set up, record, track, edit, mix, final touches, then I master the mixdown into the final compression and stereoization.

  29. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  30. A: I am new on SoundBetter and would love to meet with new clients and potential customers.

  31. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  32. A: I promise to always put my clients first and see through to their satisfaction for my services no matter what.

  33. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  34. A: I love manipulating sound and frequencies to my desire. I think music is so intriguing. You can really make something sound exactly how you want!

  35. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  36. A: I would take my microphone, interface, 2 small monitors, and my computer.

  37. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  38. A: I mostly work with hip-hop artists in the local area. I'm willing to push the limits and work on other genres of music.

  39. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  40. A: I bring the best quality that I can bring. I always focus on client satisfaction.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I'm inspired by big hip-hop producers such as Metro Boomin, 808 Mafia, Southside, etc. As far as EDM producers, I'm a huge Skrillex fan. I'm inspired by Purity Ring, Deadmau5, Calvin Harris, and Diplo.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: People in my area come to me a lot for studio time. I do a lot of mixing and mastering of peoples' songs. I've done commercial voice-over work as well.
