Interview with Noah Wrieden
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: My latest song! "Pulling Me Away, From You." I mixed mastered and produced the whole thing. It was my favorite because it really challenged me to get out of my comfort zone in terms of production and push myself.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I don't Personally know anyone but there is a lot of great talent on here.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Analog, although I don't use it, it adds so much character to a sound.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: To make you track sound better.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Its something I could do if I never made a single penny from it.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: What they need to send me - All the stems to your track and any references you might have
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Make sure you really take your time to look around to find someone who you feel really connects with what you're asking!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: For sure my laptop, guitar, studio monitors an audio interface and a microphone.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: A blend between Indie rock/pop mixed with alternative then put together with EDM.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: San Holo, I've always looked up to his use of real instrumentation blended with edm.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Sidechain! If you're just starting off make sure you learn how to do this. Its essentially dipping the volume of a sound to give room for your kick and snares.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Anything Electronic related
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Turning any idea into a full length song
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: A new perspective and creativity.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I've been adding to my setup for a a long time, and I've found that I like to keep it all very simple. Being able to use a few pieces of gear really well is always better than having to much gear and not knowing how to use it well.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: My main inspirations are Skrillex and San Holo, they both have very unique production and sounds!
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I am currently working on a few singles to be released soon, and I am looking forward to creating and releasing an album in the next year!
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That all we do is push a few buttons and your all set, it takes years of practice and learning to really master this craft.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I normally will ask for reference tracks and artists mixes you like!
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been involved with music ever since the fourth grade when I joined my schools band. Around 7th grade I started producing in my bedroom on an old copy of Ableton Live. I followed with it until high school where I went to a music and arts school, where I took many music classes (music theory, sight singing and ear training, recording studio, piano ect.) And I've been doing it ever since.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My usual process is listening through the song. Then I will take notes as to what I immediately see I need to do. Then I will work though each track, getting them cleaned up and sitting well in the mix, all while keeping the original vibe and style of the track intact.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mixing, Mastering and Vocal tuning / Processing. I am here to help put the finishing touches on a project, and making sure a clients creation sounds as best as possible while keeping it in line with their initial vision.
