Authentic R&B/Soul musician who has an ear for catchy hooks. I see music as textures. Vocals cut through the ambience and groove of a beat to paint a picture. I am an independent and unsigned songwriter who has been played on commercial radio and has performed internationally under the artist name "Vinny Lunar." I cant wait to work with you!
I am a Berlin-based Australian singer and songwriter who has been writing songs for over 7 years. I have a natural ear for R&B/Hip Hop music as a performer, songwriter, lyricist and producer. I have over 25 songs published in the public domain, with some of my tracks receiving radio play.
I believe that the creative process has to be organic and personal. When I work with an artist, I want to hear the story and really connect.
Send me an instrumental, any ideas or thoughts you have. I will record the demo and send it back to you for your feedback. If you want changes, we will have a chat and make them together. I do like to keep job revisions to no more than 3 rounds of edits, but im confident we will get the track right where you want it to be!

Interview with Vinay Chandra
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: The "Vinny Lunar' EP that was released in 2018. It was my first body of work released from Berlin and reflected raw lyrics and bolder singing decisions. It had a very carefully thought out aesthetic, music video and sound that I hope to build on moving forward.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Make sure that the singer-songwriter you work with engages with the theme, story and emotion that you are after. You should not feel like they have purely copied a reference track or forced their own ideas on you.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been an R&B Singer-songwriter and rapper for over 6 years. I trained my ear singing in choirs, jazz open mic nightclubs and as a backup singer for other acts. I've finished short courses at the Sydney Conservatorium of music on contemporary songwriting to develop my skills further.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Intuitive, organic and collaborative. I know I can write pretty catchy hooks and things that are commercially appealing. I do believe however that each track has its own essence that has to be respected.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with Pharrell Williams from the Neptunes. His ability to innovate and stay relevant regardless of how long he has been in the game is amazing. I love his sense of groove and ability to work with a wide range of artists yet still produce gold!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: My speciality is in R&B/Hip Hop however I have written and worked with artists who cover Dance, EDM and Pop.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My R&B vocals. I have a strong sense of melody and an ear for a catchy hook. I also know how to adapt well based on any reference tracks or inspirations the artist provides. I don't try to force anything onto my clients.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring an organic and natural sense of melody to each track that sticks to the ear. I've spent hundreds of thousands of hours loving (and obsessively studying) 90s RnB, Old school soul and contemporary hip-hop to make sure I keep a strong pulse on the sound. R&B is in my DNA! haha
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: When I receive an instrumental, I really spend some time grooving to the track. I jam for a while to identify what natural rhythms and melodies come to my ear. I start writing a couple of hooks with lyrics that connect with the subject the artist wants to cover. I then tend to work my way back to fill in the rest of the track.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I like to keep things simple and professional. I record vocals using my Rode NTC3 condenser microphone into my Scarlett Focusrite audio interface.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I am a 90s and 2000s kid who is finding his groove in the present. Vocally, I am heavily inspired by Stevie Wonder, Al Green and Marvin Gaye back in the day. I love and have been inspired by the contemporary sound of Usher, Craig David and Miguel.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I write and record toplines, R&B hooks, rap verses.
