Interview with Rozotadi

  1. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  2. A: I would recommend Alessia Labate

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: Hybrid. There's the aliveness of analog & the longevity/efficiency of digital.

  5. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  6. A: I get to make art for a living.

  7. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  8. A: What is your turn around time? I tell them within the next 3 days depending on the agreed upon work load.

  9. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  10. A: MPC Live 2. A solar powered generator. LP-8's. Big knob studio. Prophet Rev2

  11. Q: How would you describe your style?

  12. A: Alternative Hip-Hop, Pop, international, edm.

  13. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  14. A: I usually work on alternative hip-hop and r&b.

  15. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  16. A: I bring CLARITY. I bring a hodgepodge of clearly articulated sound. I like things to be pronounced if that's what the client wants.

  17. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  18. A: My debut EP is my biggest accomplishment so far because of the amount of discipline I needed to have inorder to reach that vision. I read everyday new production/mixing techniques. It serves as a snapshot of where I was a year ago and how far I came.

  19. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  20. A: I have this joint I'm working out where I sampled Janet Jackson's 'Pleasure Principle' in 33 1/3 rpm. I'm excited about it because I've been working on making my personal singles KNOCK and it's really coming along.

  21. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  22. A: You will always receive a product that reflects the culture you bought into in the first place.

  23. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  24. A: The biggest misconception is software can do my job. If it could, then everyone would have seamless integration into their respective Music markets.

  25. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  26. A: When do you need the composition by? What's your export format? Do you need stems? Are you affiliated with BMI or ASCAP?

  27. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  28. A: Please just communicate with me. If you don't know what you want or how to say it - tell me, that creates a launching point for understanding.

  29. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  30. A: I started producing on a desktop in 2011, I was 12 years old. After 4 years of producing, my mother bought me a mic and speakers that had a built-in audio interface. Ever since then I've been producing, mixing, and mastering my own music. The first day I came to university I started a rap group that's called Room 4. I executively produced and engineered 3 projects and countless songs in that 2-year span. I then went back to being solo dolo and focused energy on my debut EP. It released in August 2020 with a successful $10,000 Kickstarter. All during this time doing freelance work for different entities around the nation. To sum it all up, I'm a multi-media artist with intentions of building an enterprise of lucrative exploits in the name of social change.

  31. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  32. A: I'd love to work with Little Dragon, their synth work, vocals, mixing, and rhythms are so attractive that I get goosebumps every time I hear their music. Yukimi has inspired me to be a better vocalist, I know I'll never sound like her, but she's a reminder to always sound like me.

  33. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  34. A: Always be 100%. Finish that bar strong, saturate those drums, take a full breath from your diaphragm, go the extra step of learning the ones before you to learn what it looks like for your career to be 100%.

  35. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  36. A: My strongest skill is my willingness to learn. I am a scholar so I pay my respects to the process and what goes into it.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I've been exploring old techniques for the last year so I usually have a book open on my desk while simultaneously turning knobs on my MPC and DSI Prophet. I even have a pocket operator 133 (microsampler) so when I'm out and about; I'm fidgeting ideas I can take home and sample on the MPC. If I'm not dawless, then I'm on FL creating melodies with plugins and mixing vocals. I like to start from a visual standpoint so I get encapsulated with a vibe.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: Whew, I've invested in myself more than ever lately. I have a Neumann TLM 102 Microphone, Kali Audio LP8s, a Prophet Rev2, MPC Live 2, FL Studio, ProTools, MPC Beats, open & closed-back headphones, Primacoustics sound treatment (for now), Waves Mercury Bundle, Serum, Purity, and some other joints.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: If you listen to my personal music you might be able to hear a bit of sampha in me or eve nlittle dragon. But fr tho, I'm very inspired by early 2000's drum programming. (You know I had to get the MPC Live II)

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I do high quantities of mixes and assist with artist consultation. If possible, I set them up with a comprehensive package that includes social media strategy, brand guidance, music production, story development, and an ear that truly listens.
