Interview with Adrià Sierra

  1. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  2. A: That "anybody can do it".

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: Honestly, digital. Currently analog offers little to no advantage over digital, and everyday that margin becomes smaller, whereas digital has a bunch of benefits over analog, most importantly: non-destructive editing. And time-saving mechanisms.

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: You'll be glad you worked with me. Maybe not initially, but eventually.

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: The excitement people show once they hear the results.

  9. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  10. A: Communicate what you really want and don't be afraid to tell me how you want it to be.

  11. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  12. A: My computer, my interface, my midi keyboard and my two synths.

  13. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  14. A: On and off since I was 17. I'm 25 now.

  15. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  16. A: Savant, because he's crazy creative and the sky's the limit for him.

  17. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  18. A: Sometimes less is more. But you really need to treat those few elements nice. For instance: instead of layering a lot of different bass instruments or sounds and trying to make them work, get a nice one and process it creatively. This also can apply to drums, or anything really.

  19. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  20. A: Electronic-inspired music.

  21. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  22. A: Noisia, deadmau5, Carpenter Brut, Aphex Twin, Savant...

  23. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  24. A: Most commonly worked on music mixing and game audio (sound design).
