Preston Lull on SoundBetter

Songwriter, Producer, & Audio Engineer. I've been delivering production and engineering for 9 years. Listen to my work examples and let me know if you want that sound for your music. I will deliver!

» Every project is different and I have different rates and schedules to meet the specific needs of each project.

- I always allow for as many revisions as needed (within reason); I understand that mixing is a creative field just as it is a technical field.

- I definitely provide discounts for work in packages. Just reach out and let me know how many songs, or what specifications are needed and we can work it out!

I primarily specialize in Electronic music and Hip/Hop, but have experience with all different kinds of music. Whether it's singer/songwriter acoustic, orchestral, rap, EDM, rock or metal, or pop; I listen to and intently study all kinds of music and have practiced producing and mixing all of it. I'm a musician and producer first, but work with others primarily for the efficiency and quality of my engineering. I've studied audio engineering professionally, and have sat in on many sessions. This is my career now and I intend to deliver fantastic products to all of my clients.

I’ve worked with Preston a few times over the years, he’s mixed and mastered my earliest music as well as helped me with a lot with vocal mixing on some of my music. I’ve learned a lot from him over the years, a lot of which has bettered my understanding of how to make my music better

I've worked with Preston for years, and he is by far one of the most talented audio engineers I personally know. Not only have we done work together, but the things he taught me have really improved my own music as well. He knows everything that revolves around the production of music.

I have absolutely no words for the quality of Preston's services and sound engineering skills. His knowledge of mixing and mastering are unparalleled. I've worked with Preston many times, and I can guarantee that he will provide an exceptional mix and master for your track . His apprehension of mixing is astounding; he is able to breakdown and pinpoint so much that is wrong with your mix in a very easy and coherent way. If you are wondering if you should hire Preston, I highly recommend you do. He will get the job done with industry professional quality. I will definitely work with him again.

Interview with Preston Lull

  1. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  2. A: When it comes to music there are just too many spectacular artists in every genre to count. Speaking technically, there are tons of Engineers who are just so competent that they're revolutionizing the way that records are sounding and I study all of their progressing work. A couple I can name are Jon Castelli, Tom Norris, Rob Kinelski, Zak Cervini, Luke Pretty, Tony Maserati and more.

  3. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  4. A: The most common type of work is mixing and mastering. I have several friends and returning clients who just email me and say "Hey, make this song sound good". I know what a professionally mixed/mastered song in its respective genre or industry is supposed to sound like, and I can provide that. And hey, if you have a "sound" in mind, give me a reference song or record and I can make it sound like the reference.

  5. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  6. A: for advanced stereo imaging, use LR channel delay AND panning together to create a spacious bi-neural sound. Don't stick exclusively to panning (as it'll sound artificial and one-dimensional on a good system, nor exclusively LR channel delay since that'll make your song phase-cancel away in a flash when you crush it to mono. Also using convolution reverb intelligently on dry elements will recreate the authenticity of a recording, with the response of a synth or DI signal.
