Interview with Auspiddit

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: At 19 I released a Project called Sorry, Try Again. It featured no one but myself and I was early in the production stages. But I managed to create 4 solid beats that were added to the projects overall wellbeing. It was a pride moment due to the fact I felt like Nas on Illmatic in my head but also because I wanted to create a different sound than I was hearing and for sure accomplished just that. I wrote and recorded over all the beats and travelled to Brooklyn at the "TEAMBACKPACK" event and handed out my demo all over the city. It is in my soundcloud Set on my profile.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I have 3 Projects That I have in the works. I have about 10 singles I have produced and recorded over to release to the world. I am producing for my new artist, BUCC and crafting a sound for my own project releasing after this single press run.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Yes, Mickey Shiloh is one of the dopest artists and people. I'd love to work with her on a more personal and creative level.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: I prefer digital but A mix of both because even though digital is more convenient, it doesn't beat out some vintage sound that you may very well only find through analog.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: To always bring you Quality skills and creation to the table to best fit YOUR vision.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: The Fulfillment I get servicing the world through art is what I love most about music.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: They ask me do I have a beat store. I tell them I used to but now I work with artists directly for creative purposes.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That I just Rap and don't sing much. But there is much work that isn't released to the public. Sometimes what the public has, doesn't always reflect the capabilities of an artist.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: Do you ever feel like when you come together with a friend or family member you enjoy, you tend to think of greater or " out of the ordinary" ideas when you put your minds together? This is exactly what the goal is always with my clients as I value how the work comes out just as much as they do.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: I love passionate people, it's important to be as clear as possible with your directions as to what you would like in a song or composition. It can make the delivery process go much faster due to the fact there is an easier blueprint to go off of.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: I'd Take a water bottle that filters moisture in the air into water, My iPod so my mind doesn't go nuts (though it very much so might being on a desert island), Id take a picture frame with my entire family in it, a Pack of seeds to plant fruit trees, and a tight bug free Tent with blow away protection.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: My Career path was working a job at a country club to pay for bills while I prayed for more time to do music. I ended up leaving there to give myself the proper creative and mental growth needed for music and life in general. I've been recording/songwriting since 2009 and making beats since 2013.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: I don't really have the answer to this because I love to dabble into a lot of styles but they all evidently sound like me. I'd just say I'm the shapeshifter of the music game. I love pushing my craft to its limits and realizing there are none. I like singing but a lot of times a song doesn't require that. Emotion is my bottom line and that affects the style a lot.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I'd like to work with all of the artists Hiphop and myself considers legends in their own right. It would be unfair to single out an artist but to name a few i'd say Eminem, Nas, Jay-z, Kendrick Lamar, J Cole, Drake, Freddie Gibbs, Joyner Lucas, Tory Lanez and many more. Why is because I want to be able to create amazing music with who I grew up listening to and in turn have the world be affected in a critically positive manner.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Over producing is a thing. You can make a huge mistake thinking you were adding layers upon layers and it be the best due to that. Quality over Quantity in all aspects of this business and music production.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I usually work on Hiphop/R&B soul type of songs. However I have been known to make various types of music including Dancehall, reggae, Rock, Trap, 90's rap and more.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: I'm always working on ways to improve on my weakness(or what I personally feel are weakness') so I don't feel the need to even say I have a strongest skill. But if I had to pick a preferable strong suit I'd say my ability to rap and sing with different styles and cadences to a plethora of beat choices and genres is a favorite of mine.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring anything a song needs. I have strong vocals to be able to bring chris brown like vocals to a song, my lyricism is strong enough to pull a song together just by feeling. And I specialize in making catchy, creative chorus'/Hooks that draw many people towards my music with minimal marketing.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: Couple Different elements to my process. I Usually start beats from scratch because I record to my own production. So, I have my Macbook, Akai Advance 49, $100 preamp and KRK 5's for the speakers in my bedroom. I make beats using FL Studio 20. Once I have a good mix/master to the beat, I Bring it over to the studio I run with my team. There is where I record on protools through the Neumann U87 Mic, Apollo and Aphex for vocals. Myself or My engineer mixes and masters on Yamaha HS8's speakers. When it comes down to creatively what the process is, I tend to not try and overthink anything i'm doing. This process of making a beat, then going to the studio is a matter of about 20mins-1HR. I don't overthink what I'm doing, if my drive is strictly emotion and Witt, there isn't a reason for writers block. It becomes made up.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I Use a Custom Mac desktop, in the mixing room with an Akai Advance 49 sitting to the left of the desk. The Neumann U87 Mic is in the booth with a Kaotica Eyeball on the mic. The Mixing rack has an Apollo and Aphex for vocal compression and much more. On the left and right of the computer Double monitors, I have Yamaha HS8's speakers correctly pointed in a symmetrical direction. Walls and Ceiling are acoustically conditioned and has a tight sound in the mixing room and in the recording booth.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: So many to say! Even me picking favorites right now i'll miss a few. As far as Lyricism and my personal craft goes, I am inspired by the likes of 2pac, Biggie smalls, Eminem, Nas, Jay-z, Slaughterhouse, the list goes on. When it comes down to production however, I cannot help but be inspired by Rick Ruben, Madlib, Alchemist, Timbaland, No-ID, Kanye West, J Cole, Hopsin, Mac Miller, Boi-1da, ArrabMuzik, and many more

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: The most common work would be making custom beat production with no samples. It helps the client sell the song if preferred and craft them an organic sound they can appreciate.
