David Nellessen on SoundBetter

I’ve produced for brands like L’Oréal and Toyota, written toplines for Kontor Records and worked with countless artists from around the world. The songs I’ve worked on range from electronic pop, hip-hop to rock and have gained over 2 million streams on Spotify alone. I also have a solo alt-pop artist project under my own name “Dave Nellessen“.

Music Producer: I produce music in several genres, main focus on Pop (Electronic, Synthpop, Alt-Pop, Indiepop). Feel free to send me your song and I'll be happy to listen to it! If I think I'm a good fit for the track we can talk reference tracks before I get to work. I'll keep sending you updated demos throughout the process.
In the end you'll receive: mixed and mastered "radio-ready" WAV/MP3, song stems, instrumental version.

Beatmaker: My beats range from old school hip-hop with classic sounds, to lofi beats with chill vibes, to modern trap sounds with crisp drums and hard-hitting 808s. My work is throughout characterized by ear-catching melodies and chord progressions.

Guitarist: I've been playing electric guitar since I was 12 years old, I completed the “Professional Program” for guitar by the Modern Music School in 2015. Whether it’s a lead guitar for a pop tune, a rhythm guitar section or a blues/rock solo, I’ll record it. You will get the „dry/wet" guitar stems as well as a D.I.-version of the track.

I also offer:

- Vocal Recording (check out my Artist Project Dave Nellessen for references)
- Mixing/Mastering
- Vocal Editing, Tuning and Quantization
- Sound Design (Video)

I promise I'll always listen and give it my all to help you make your vision come to life. Hit me up if you have any questions. UNLIMITED REVISIONS FOR EVERY GIG AT NO EXTRA COST.

I'd love to hear about your project. Click the 'Contact' button above to get in touch.

Interview with David Nellessen

  1. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  2. A: Creativity.

  3. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  4. A: Fender Strat, Interface, Macbook Pro.

  5. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  6. A: I got into songwriting at 17 and played in a rock band throughout my teenage years. At 20, I taught himself how to produce music from my bedroom, continuing to write songs and play the guitar for the next couple of years, which eventually led to more and more opportunities to work with various artists in the music industry. I can now look back to a decade of experience in music, whether it’s writing toplines for dance music, producing pop or making guitar samples for hip-hop tracks.

  7. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  8. A: Pop, Hip-Hop, Rock

  9. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  10. A: I work with Ableton Live. For guitar recordings, I use my PRS Custom SE guitar or my Fender Stratocaster. For amp simulations, I use Neural DSP, Guitar Rig, Bias FX and Waves GTR. For music production, I work 'in the box', using plugins like Serum, Analog Lab, Massive, Sylenth1, Addictive Drums, Addictive Keys, or stock plugins! For mixing and mastering, I love the Waves Plugins and iZotope Ozone Plugins.

  11. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  12. A: I just released my debut album "Like Yesterday" under my own name, a collection of 16 alt-pop songs that I made 100% by myself in my home studio.

  13. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  14. A: I write + produce, sing, edit/tune vocals, mix/master and play guitar!

  15. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  16. A: Listen to reference tracks.

  17. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  18. A: My ear for melodies and harmonies. They're what make a song, in my opinion.

  19. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  20. A: Work until you're 100% satisfied!

  21. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  22. A: Jon Bellion, one of the most passionate and inspiring music producers I've seen. Or John Mayer, my favorite guitarist!

  23. Q: What's your typical work process?

  24. A: I'll start with melodies/harmonies/a beat, whatever gets the inspiration going. Then I'll loop a section and collect as many ideas as possible. Make a b-section if needed, write lyrics... Arrange the different parts, mix and master, done!
