LOELASH on SoundBetter

'The multi-instrumentalist is something of a prodigy [...] his work [is] pop rooted in electronics, dexterous of production and graceful of melody.' (Clash Magazine)

I am a classically trained Saxophonist, Keyboardist and Bass Guitarist with a Master in Music Production, Sound Design and Sound Engineering. I specialise in remote studio sessions, mixing & mastering, remixing and can also be a session musician.

Often described as a hard working and passionate individual, for the past five years I have constantly helped the underground London scene to grow and flourish with its multi-faceted, talented independent artists, as well as taking care of my solo career.

In 2019 I have opened for Illa J in Bordeaux and supported Anomalie in his UK tour.
Last year I have released my sophomore EP Lapse which caught the attention of Clash Magazine and Complex UK, BBC 1Xtra, BBC Introducing in London.

I offer production services, including arrangement, vocal comping, remixing, mixing and mastering.
I also am a Logic Pro X Apple Certificate User and throughout the years I mastered the use of Waves, Soundtoys, Plugin Alliance, iZotope & Native Instruments plug-ins.

I just wrapped up my first EP with Loe and I could not be happier!! I came to him a few months ago with a vision and he was able to execute every step of the way. His production is insane, he takes feedback extremely well, and his mixing and mastering was exactly what I wanted! This guy is the real deal and it was such a pleasure working with him. Thanks Loe 🙏🏾

Aside from his glaring musical competence, LOELASH is a true professional whose vision and work ethic is rarely matched. He’s been a friend to myself and the London beat scene for many years, in which he holds a solid reputation for passionately supporting peers and championing forward thinking music.

Personally, his influence on me is such that I always leave projects we’ve worked on together feeling inspired to work harder and more creatively.

Interview with LOELASH

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: My debut album 'Fantasia'. I was the executive producer, engineer, A&R. I managed to enhance the whole project with a 9-months campaign which climaxed with an almost sold-out release party 'Fantasia Live' in London.

  3. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  4. A: Morgan Bosc, excellent mixing/mastering engineer.

  5. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  6. A: 'Do you think you can work on this track keeping in mind what I have asked?' 'Yes, of course.'

  7. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  8. A: Sometimes people think I'm just a producer or just an engineer, while I'm actually both!

  9. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  10. A: 'Do you have a clear idea of what you are after, musically?' 'Have you got reference tracks upon which I can base my work?'

  11. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  12. A: Nowadays, the technology we use to make music has made the line between the two so blurry that it's almost impossible to choose which is better. Old school musicians and engineers will always tell you that analog is better, and I used to think that too, now I am not so sure anymore.

  13. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  14. A: As I've always told my clients in the past, it's good practice to have in mind a clear idea of what you're after - that will save time both to me and to the client and resulting in a much better end product.

  15. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  16. A: Alto Saxophone, laptop, Maschine, Keyboard and Moog Sub Phatty.

  17. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  18. A: I have 10+ years of experience, having started working with Logic in 2010. Moved to London in 2015 and got a Master in Music Production at Point Blank Music School. Straight after graduating I began working with artists in the Capital.

  19. Q: How would you describe your style?

  20. A: Having born in a very musical family (both my parents are classical musicians and teacher at the local Conservatory in Brescia, Italy) I grew up listening to very wide range of genres, from Classical to Fusion, Jazz and Funk, Rock and Blues. In high school I discovered Electronic and Hip-Hop and my brain started linking similarities between all these different genres of music, and also memorising all my favourite aspects (for example, bass lines in Funk music, hip-hop's drum patterns, electronic pads and synths, jazz chords, etc.). As I said my style is ever growing also because of my hunger for discovering new genres and mixtures that push forward the creation of music.

  21. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  22. A: There are a lot of artists I would LOVE to be in the studio with. When it comes to pure music composition, Herbie Hancock or Terrace Martin are at the top of the list. If we're talking about Sound Engineering then Rick Rubin and/or KennyBeats. As for beat-making, Monte Booker and Sam Gellaitry.

  23. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  24. A: Work templates. They're essential and very time-saving.

  25. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  26. A: I mainly work on my music and my career that is ever-evolving. I have probably switched three to four genres in the past three years, that is also why I am very versatile: I always work hard to champion something that hasn't been created yet.

  27. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  28. A: Production.

  29. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  30. A: Talent, musical knowledge and over 10 years of experience. I treat every song I work in as the most valuable creation I have ever done.

  31. Q: What's your typical work process?

  32. A: I always start from understanding my client's vision and aesthetic - I believe they have to resonate with mines in order for me to properly work on a project. I want to know every little detail that can guide me to the best result I can possibly achieve.

  33. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  34. A: My setup include top-notch gears that allow me to work in an environment that is ready for any type of music related jobs. My constantly-growing library count over 500GB of high-quality samples.

  35. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  36. A: I am very inspired by producers like 9th Wonder, Young Guru, Sounwave, MixedbyAli and Rick Rubin.

  37. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  38. A: I work with artists when they need production on their track or project, sound engineering, recording, comping or just need a session musician.

  39. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  40. A: I am working on my debut album, FANTASIA, to be released in 2021.

  41. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  42. A: That I will give everything I have, all my knowledge and efforts, to create the most amazing music I can, in line with what they desire.

  43. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  44. A: I love the feeling of creating something new, undefined, when I add a bass line to a chord progression or when I find the perfect sample. When I mix drums and pads, when I side-chain, when I am comping vocals. The list is endless. Music has always been my whole life. I can't picture myself doing anything different than what I do. I have patiently nurtured my passion throughout the years and that let me reach an outstanding level of professionalism.
