Nik Sarnacki (Nik North) on SoundBetter

My name is Nik. I am an audio engineer based out of the NYC area. I have worked with artists such as Dave East, Lil Tjay, Offset, Southside, Cordae, Yungblud, Jim Jones, The Heatmakerz, G Herbo, Dawid Podsiadlo, and more.

Most of my work is in the scope of Hip-Hop/Rap, R&B, and Pop. However, I have worked in both NYC and Nashville giving me well rounded experience with other genres of music. I provide services in recording, editing, mixing, and mastering. I keep my finger on the pulse of modern mixing techniques and vocal production styles. I have very close attention to detail, and as a musician myself, I strive to be sensitive to the needs of the artists I work with. I look forward to making your vision a reality!

I'd love to hear about your project. Click the 'Contact' button above to get in touch.

Nik is a great engineer whatever you want he will do just tell him and he does exactly how you envisioned it. Every song he has engineered for me came out great. You wouldn’t regret going to Nik he has worked with tons of artists so his experience is very high in this field.

Nik is the jack of all trades. He's worked with brand new artists, but will bring over his experience with well known established names in the game to your session. He won't hesitate to offer his genuine suggestions in efforts for the right sound which is hard to come by from my experience. Too many engineers out there that just want to press the "Record" button and feed you what you want to hear, versus having the aligned goal of making a dope record which Nik does all the time.

Interview with Nik Sarnacki (Nik North)

  1. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  2. A: That the process is quick and easy. Being an audio engineer is truly a craft and an art, I'll be learning more and expanding my skill set for the rest of my life, which I love.

  3. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  4. A: Is there a demo or reference track I can listen to? Are there any specific effects you would like in the song? Please describe your vision for the song.

  5. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  6. A: Hip-Hop/Rap, R&B, Pop, and Singer-Songwriter.

  7. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  8. A: Strong attention to detail and patience.

  9. Q: What's your typical work process?

  10. A: First I make sure that I have all of the necessary files including any reference tracks and demos from the client. Then I move into editing. After that I'll get deep into the mixing. I make sure to reference at different levels and through different kinds of speakers. This allows me to ensure that the mix that will translate well for the listener no matter what they listen on.

  11. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  12. A: Both, but mainly digital. There is nothing like the the sound and feel of using analog gear, but today many plug-ins, especially UAD, have really come close to replicating analog gear. I prefer to print/record anything I affect with analog gear, and finish the rest of the mix digitally. This makes it easy for me to make changes on the go.

  13. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  14. A: I will use everything in my skill set to make your vision come to life.

  15. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  16. A: Working on cool music, meeting cool people, and seeing the look on someone's face when their vision is brought to life. I get to do what I love for a living, I'm blessed.
