Cathrine Witzøe on SoundBetter

Soulful Nordic singer with strong compelling voice. I can provide you with lead vocals and/or ambient landscaping freestyle or if you have something specific in mind. I am good at making vocal melodies.

My name is Cathrine and I am a 34 year old singer and songwriter in the Norwegian-Swedish duo Indigorado. We have used musicians from Soundbetter in our upcoming album "Find Back" and are very happy and satisfied with the dedication and efficiency of the people we have been working with so I thought I would like to see what I can offer to other projects.

I believe my strengths are intuition and feel and I deliver with an artistic approach.
When it comes to recording I am fairly new in the game, but I am confident that I will be able to provide you with the files that you need in order to be satisfied.

Services I offer:
Lead vocals
Top line
I play the harmonica and also have a harmonium to add as a beautiful backround layer.

Looking forward to hear from you!
Cathrine

Cathrine is a great singer and a kind person. Five genuine stars for her work. I'd recommend her to those who want a beautiful soul to shine through the vocals.

Interview with Cathrine Witzøe

  1. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  2. A: In our own music project Indigorado we mostly create and play folkpop/singersongwriter. I have also done some ambient sounds on the artist Rayshimano`s song "speil".

  3. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  4. A: I´d like to imagine when singing that I am standing on stage or that I´m surrounded by nature to try to capture the most realistic feeling depending on what kind of message/symbolic the song provides. Enough time and a good vocal warm up is also essential.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Yes. We have beeing working with the producer/mixer Ian Bodzasi from Toronto. He has mixed all our latest songs such as Ice, Paradise, The flowers, The old man and Walking.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: That I will do my best!

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: Flexibility and being able to do what I love. Waking up in the morning. Preparing for the day ahead with yoga or running and getting ready to work from home. Challenging myself and learning by doing. "Meeting" new musicians and broaden my perspectives.

  11. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  12. A: I will try to find out if I can deliver what the client wants and if I am the right person by asking; Specific details about the project such as do they want me to do come up with the vocal melody? Do they have finished lyrics or can it be adjustable if I´m supposed to do the melody. What is the song about for that person and what kind of feeling are they wanting to express. Do they have any thoughts on what kind of vocal style they want?

  13. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  14. A: I started out singing when i was a kid and I always liked performing. I startet to write my own songs in high school borrowing my fathers guitar. He also had a pa and a mic. Later on me and my dad startet making songs together. He provided the tunes and I added melody and lyrics. We played a couple of years at the annual Kongsberg Jazzfestival and also together with a violinist. In 2012 I moved to Oslo and in spring 2013 I met Ola and we also performed that same year at the jazzfestival together with to other musicians under my name. In 2014 if I remember correctly we changed the band name to Indigorado just as it is today and we have been touring mostly as a duo. We have released a few songs and are now working on our debut album. I sing mostly in English, but resently I have startet writing lyrics in Norwegian and I wrote a poem that became a song. Most of the time we work the other way around. First the tune comes into play, then I start playing with melodies and words and the we write the text with bits and pieces from the "jam". I now will offer my vocal service to be able to make a shift towards beeing an independent artist.

  15. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  16. A: I´v been working for myself for most of the time as an independent artist doing work such as recording at home and playing live. I recently had a job for Norwegian television where I provided herding sounds witch is an ancient way of communication on distance and also a way to get your domesticated animals home from the grazing areas.

  17. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  18. A: I am working on our own project with our debut album "Find back".

  19. Q: How would you describe your style?

  20. A: Artistic and down to earth.

  21. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  22. A: Not an artist, but a whole ensemble. I would like to sing with the Norwegian orchestra KORK. I think it will feel like flying or at least our songs will lift beyond my imagination.:=)

  23. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  24. A: Nerve and a dynamic approach.

  25. Q: What's your typical work process?

  26. A: I will first listen to the song several times to get to know the melody and the lyrics if that is already set. Since this is my first time here and first time recording vocals for others I probably will have a dialog with the client of how he or she want it to be. My main goal is for you to be happy with what I produce and i think thats a good starting point.

  27. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  28. A: I have an Imac with Logic pro x and a the audio interface scarlett 18I , an aston spirit mic and a vocal booth.

  29. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  30. A: A knife, a sleeping bag (embedded in a mosquito net), a kit to make fire, an axe and a piano. I am a practical beeing:=)

  31. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  32. A: I must say improvisation.

  33. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  34. A: I`m inspired by Lola Marsh. We went to see her after we had played at the festival Waves Vienna in Berlin in 2016. Other artists that inspire me are Maya Johanna, Nick cave, First aid kit, Òlafur Arnalds and Mari Boine.
