Jan Heymel

Arranging, Orchestrating, ...

Jan Heymel on SoundBetter

I love writing music. I always try to combine different styles to create something new. I enjoy every second being on an instrument and trying to get melodies from head to score.

I don't offer to write any songs. But if you wrote a song and want some special arrangement for it, I can do that for you. I work mainly with sample libraries, so drums, guitars, pianos, orchestral instruments, etc. will not be recorded live, except you want me to organize that (higher costs for booking/recordings etc.). The samples sound pretty nicely though! (check out the soundcloud demos – all made with sample libraries)

I can arrange from little string to large-scale orchestras; I can produce some beats for your production as well as creating synth arrangements; I can play piano lines to any musical production.

Further I offer mixing and / or mastering service which is done entirely on high-end digital gear.

Interview with Jan Heymel

  1. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  2. A: Adele. She's an amazing singer with songwriting skills that seem not to come from this planet.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I am working on an electronic music project.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: I used to be a big fan of analog, but I think digital caught up and got very well. Nevertheless, I still let some songs of mine mastered with analog gear.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: To give 100% my best.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: The total inner peace it gives me.

  11. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  12. A: Often people think, that arranging is an easy task. If it's easy, you're doing it too much upon formulas and strict music theory. Instead of experimenting and trying out new stuff – which is where the magic happens.

  13. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  14. A: Don't hesitate asking and getting into contact. Those social online platforms became to such a weird place of anonymity, where everything is based upon values. Which is good to some extent. Never hire me if I have less than three stars please! (then I wouldn't even hire myself, haha). But getting in contact ist just the best way to make yourself a good opinion.

  15. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  16. A: Laptop, Headphones, Keyboard. Also my notebook and a pen.

  17. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  18. A: I've been writing, composing and arranging music since almost 15 years now.

  19. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  20. A: Less is more. Especially in terms of mixing and arranging.

  21. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  22. A: I love combing different genres, so I'm used to quite a lot types of music. I still love rock and electronic dance music very much.

  23. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  24. A: Melody writing.

  25. Q: What's your typical work process?

  26. A: A good cup of tea in the early morning hours is a perfect start for me into my day. Then my creativity floods well and I can get the music which is playing in my head into my computer. I often work on a couple of ideas and try to limit it down to one. This is just an amazing process.

  27. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  28. A: Music production and film scoring.
