  1. Review by Tess H.

Charlotte's work is truly stunning. She served as producer for my track and brought an incredible level of care to the project, gaining inspiration from my refefences and taking my song to beautiful place. She sang a lot of BGVs on the song and has a gorgeous, studio quality professional voice. She also played electric guitar, bass and piano on the track so I didn't have to hire session musicians. She's a multi-instrumentalist producing genius and I can't wait to w/ her again!

Charlotte is one of the most incredible voices/talent/producers/writers I’ve ever met. I’m so thankful for her raw talent and enthusiasm for getting me my dream song and I’m forever thankful to be able to work with her. I’ve searched for a producer who would understand my needs, and when I came across Charlotte I knew she knew exactly what I wanted. One of a kind talent who really took me to the next level. Also amazing session singer. If you want to create great music, Charlotte is the best! :)

  3. Review by D.j. P.

Charlotte was really easy to work with and very accommodating. She figured out the vocal melody quickly without need of a score. Her vocals were in time, in pitch, and well suited for the demo track created. She accommodated a few revisions quickly, which made the demo perfect. I highly recommend her, she is very professional, and provides good quality work and STEMS. She is very knowledgeable about vocals and production techniques and ensured I was satisfied with the final product.

  4. Review by Peter S.

Charlotte is incredibly talented, immensely creative and a joy to work with. I've completed two songs with her now and in both cases she provided fast, efficient service and was everything I could have hoped for. The quality of her work is second to none. I will be working with her again!

Interview with Charlotte Berg

  1. Q: How would you describe your style?

  2. A: Ambient and layered, with a focus on vocals and groove

  3. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  4. A: I do full song and vocal production sessions most often nowadays. From 2012 to 2017 I toured throughout the US and Europe as a professional singer and musician, writing and recording albums when not touring. For the past 2 years I have been a resident producer and engineer at a central London studio in Soho.

  5. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  6. A: Bon Iver, Feist, Florence and the Machine, Paolo Nutini, Mundford and Sons, Lake Street Dive, Elton John

  7. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  8. A: I use cubase primarily and Shelford and TLA preamps. I use a Vox guitar amp and a Kurzweil midi keyboard. I work both at a central London studio with live and control rooms and top of the line speakers as well as at my home studio. I also have vocoders and many many virtual instruments for programming.

  9. Q: What's your typical work process?

  10. A: I usually have a meeting with the client too discuss their goals and lay out a plan of action. Ill ask the client for reference tracks and any demos they have. We'll discuss the best tempo, key and arrangement for the song. I'll then lay down a preliminary production if the track needs programming or schedule a recording session if the track is fully acoustic. I always begin with drums, bass and guitar. Later, if application, I add piano and pads. The final stage is a vocal production session with the client and then comping, tuning, editing and mixing.

  11. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  12. A: I'm a multi instrumentalist with a fantastic ear for arrangement, harmony and melody. I can play everything on your track if you don't want to shell out the money for session muscians. I've been the artist so I know how it feels to put your faith in a producer. I've worked as a professional producer and engineer for several years now and have the knowledge and skill to make your track not just professional and polished, but stand out from other professional produced tracks.

  13. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  14. A: Producing/professional singing/songwriting

  15. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  16. A: Rock, pop, indie, folk

  17. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  18. A: Leave space in the low mids so that the vocals stand out and the track sounds crisp and clear.

  19. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  20. A: I'd love to work with Bon Iver or Feist in the future. Really I'd love to work with anyone with a great song... solid lyrics with a powerful message and an open mind to create something beautiful.

  21. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  22. A: I've been playing piano and guitar for 25 years, touring for 10 years, and engineering and producing for 5 years.

  23. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  24. A: Shelford premap, U87 mic, Cubase on a mac, Kontak virtual instruments, an electric guitar

  26. A: I don't know any other producers on Soundbetter

  27. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  28. A: I'm proud of everything I've worked on. I try to improve a tiny bit every time I produce, write or perform.

  29. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  30. A: Do your research, figure out who would be the best fit for your project, and then think about exactly what you're looking to achieve so you can communicate this to your producer.

  31. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  32. A: Who are your influences? Which tracks work best as references for your song?

  33. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  34. A: When will the song be finished? It depends a bit on the song but usually within a month you'll have a mixed finished track.

  35. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  36. A: The creativity

  37. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  38. A: You'll have a track that's better than you could have imagined when we're done.

  39. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  40. A: Both, each has it's pros and cons so I use the best of both.

  41. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  42. A: I have several productions and writing assignments at the moment. I usually book up 2 weeks in advance, sometimes longer.

  • No Depression Magazine Write UpApr 17, 2019

"Ms. Berg is up there with early Judy Collins, and the brilliant Judith Durham (famous for the 1960’s hit “Georgy Girl,” the brilliant “I’ll Never Find Another You,” by The Seekers) – in the case of Durham you have to listen and set aside her English accent. It’s the purity of her vocals, her innocence and ability to take simplistic lyrics and make them sound artistic." - John Apice
