Jesse

Dark Producer/ Mix Engineer

Passionate producer and mix engineer specializing in dark tracks. If you need help mixing or creating ominous sonic landscapes then I'm here to help you.

After a few years of dabbling in basic aspects of music production, I began distributing music on different platforms to express myself as an artist. Through the use of Soundcloud, over the past 3 years I've worked with many gifted producers on collaborative projects and remixes. I enjoy being creative and working within set themes.

I'd love to hear about your project. Click the 'Contact' button above to get in touch.

Interview with Jesse

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: There are many but one that stands out for me is a track I did with the artist Mood Exhibit called "My Evolution". He created a disturbing instrumental and I was asked to add a vocal / lyrical element to the track based upon a set theme. In the end, we created a strange and unique piece that we were both very proud of.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I just finished a remix for my friend Elektric Surgery, who is a dark electronic producer from Scotland. At the moment, I'm trying to finish some of my own projects.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I'm new to this website but I'm sure I'll start meeting people soon.

  7. Q: How would you describe your style?

  8. A: Sinister and often danceable.

  9. Q: What's your typical work process?

  10. A: It depends on the project. For most dark wave tracks I start with rhythm and then sculpt the song from there.

  11. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  12. A: I run a mostly "in the box" system. I do use external instruments such as synths, samplers, groove boxes, and guitars when desired.

  13. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  14. A: I am inspired most by innovators of the past. Bands such as Coil, Throbbing Gristle, and Skinny Puppy crafted an amazing dark vibe that had a heavy influence on my style. More recently, I've loved the sound of Zanias, Void Vision and Olms.

  15. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  16. A: As an artist, I'm often asked to add a sinister vocal/ lyrics to an existing instrumental production. Second most request would be remixing another producer's track in my own style.

  17. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  18. A: I spent 2 years learning all I could about production before I started publishing songs and working with other producers. After learning the basics of production, I spent another 2 years focusing on practicing the craft and collaborating. As of now, I've got four years of experience. At this point I am confident in what I bring to the table production wise.

  19. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  20. A: I like analog too but I'm mostly digital. It's cheaper and plug ins take up less space yet still sound really good.

  21. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  22. A: I will do my best to make the production or mix as great as possible.

  23. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  24. A: Starting with nothing and ending up with something cool.

  25. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  26. A: Is this something you can work with? Let's try it and see what happens.

  27. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  28. A: That I know everything about everything haha.

  29. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  30. A: Find someone you trust and who is a good fit for what you specifically need.

  31. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  32. A: Laptop, interface, headphones, a good synth, and a mic...but where would I plug it in?

  33. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  34. A: Either dark dance tracks or horror themed ambient music.
