Mack is so wonderful to work with. Not only is he super talented at what he does, but he is just a great guy. The ease in which our sessions operates, just makes it that much easier to create, and knock it out in the booth. Wonderful environment, wonderful guy.

Let me just start off by saying this: I've worked with countless engineers pver the last ten years, however Mack EXCEEDS them ALL!

I had been searching for a sound for so long, and while others have been good, they were never able to get me the sound that I was looking for. When I first met Mack I told him what I wanted... When I got the mix back I was blown away. I had never heard my music sound that good. I decided to retain him on all my current and future endeavors... He is my guy!

He is truly a musical genius and I'm so glad that I get to work with him!

Mack is my favorite engineer. If you are looking for the top of the line engineer you have found him. His resume speaks for itself. When people hear my project the first thing they ask is who mixed this. He has the Grammy mix.
I m looking forward to the next mix.

My experience was amazing from the moment I reached out. I’ve worked with many engineers over the years and Mack hands down is the best! He puts so much effort into making sure the finished product is exactly what you are wanting as an artist, and that in addition to his professionalism is what I appreciated most. I’d definitely be willing to recommend and look forward to working together again in the future. Thanks Mack!

Mack is one of the best sound engineers that I've had the privilege to work with. On top of that, his production and composing skills are Hit song worthy. Professional, and passionate. I will hire again and again.

Interview with Mack Woodward

  1. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  2. A: Laptop, Apollo Twin, Headphones, phone, and Keyboard!

  3. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  4. A: I bring polish and competitiveness to a song. I don't like to overthink mixes - I just want to give the client what they are looking for.

  5. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  6. A: I have a great setup at Madison Studios in Chamblee, GA. I'm running Pro Tools with a Universal Audio Apollo Twin Quad which gives me plenty of mixing power inside the box.

  7. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  8. A: A majority of my time is spent mixing personally for artists. I've also been producing a lot of up and coming independent artists in the Atlanta area.

  9. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  10. A: My big inspirations are Max Martin, Dr. Luke, Serban Ghenea, Leslie Brathwaite, and Chris Lord-Alge.

  11. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  12. A: I got to work on Michael Jackson's vocals on the song "Hold My Hand". That was such a crazy moment. I was the assistant engineer and got to tune him up a bit.

  13. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  14. A: I'm currently mixing Montell Jordan's new project, as well as various independent projects here in Atlanta.

  15. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  16. A: I love both! However, I'm 95% in the box for easy recall.

  17. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  18. A: You'll be able to hit "play" and be proud.

  19. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  20. A: The excitement an artist gets when they hear their mix back and are proud to go out a play it. That's the best.

  21. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  22. A: "Can you mix for payment on the backend when I become a rockstar?" You can guess the answer.

  23. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  24. A: Mixing and Mastering - 2 very different things!

  25. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  26. A: I love making music, and I LOVE mixing music - but I don't do it for free. I'll work with budgets, but it has to make sense.

  27. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  28. A: Graduated Full Sail, moved to Atlanta, studio intern for a little under a year, assistant engineer for a year or so, big break as an engineer, worked for a few years and developed my craft, and here we are - still working, still learning.

  29. Q: How would you describe your style?

  30. A: As mainstream as it gets, but willing to experiment creatively.

  31. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  32. A: Mariah Carey. I've always been such a fan, and that gig has eluded me. (so far!)

  33. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  34. A: I love the "rule of 3". When you're starting a track, if it sounds GREAT with just 3 sounds (maybe a great kick and snare and 1 great lead synth sound or guitar riff), you're on your way.

  35. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  36. A: Being in Atlanta, I get to work on a lot of great Trap and Hip Hop music, but I'm fortunate to get a lot of Pop/ Electronic, too.

  37. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  38. A: Mixing, and "pop- sensibilities" (hearing where a song SHOULD be and making it competitive) when it comes to mixing and writing or producing music are my strongest, I think.

  39. Q: What's your typical work process?

  40. A: When I get a mix, I listen down completely one time to get a feel for what the artist is going for. Then I'll listen one more time (usually all the way down again) in more detail to pick out where things are placed, what kind of effects are being used, and what I feel the artists thinks is most important. Then I'll start carving based on those 2 listens.
