Fried Ooms on SoundBetter

Belgian music producer and mixing engineer, based in Antwerp. I ‘ve produced a variety of songs for my own as well as for external bands and artists. All the songs I have reached a good amount of success. I will help you translate your ideas into songs and mix them till they sound perfect without losing your artistic vision.

I have worked with a good range of independent clients over the past 4+ years. Therefor I ‘m familiar with a wide range of genres. From Indie Pop or Future Bass to just the normal Pop and Hip Hop or genres asking for a smaller type of sound like Singer-Songwriter. I eventually need to address the fact that I feel the most at home creating a rather melancholic mood containing the therefor fundamental shimmery reverbs and pad-like sounds (listen to listed track). Although, you can really contact me for any genre that is listed on my profile.

It could be great to know that I have had a part time classical education at the local music academy for 10+ years now, including two hours of music production class a week, given by an expert in the industry who owns a certificate.

My story started by playing the cello. Afterwards, the intrest for music that brought up in me, made me play the (electric) guitar, piano, drums and many more. I'm very confident saying I really have a talent for music creation. I do really feel it and also let that feeling guide me while making it.

I have stable connections with professionals in this industry.

I have an acoustically treated studio myself, capable of creating high-quality mixes. I'm working in this room for 5+ years now, so I know it like the palm of my hands. I could master my productions but prefer others to do so.

Send me an email through 'Contact' button above and I'll get back to you asap.

It was an absolute pleasure to work together with Fried on our projects. He's a young producer/musician who invests all his musical talent into developing professional songs. He was able to create everything we've asked and even more. The amount of talent he's got at this young age is phenomenal! He understands so much of creating music with modern day techniques. We wish him and his future clients lot's of pleasure creating new musical wonders. Cheers!

I am very satisfied with my cooperation with Fried. He delivered really great quality music within the agreed time frame. Seen from a price-quality perspective, this young man is a real gift from heaven for this industry. I know lots of people who would ask a lot more for what he delivers.

This young man is a very talented artist. The sheer detail in his mixes and productions is unheard of even with a lot of professionals I know who’ve been in the business for decades. He knows how to listen and because of his broad taste in music, he manages to come up with quality work influenced by lots of genres.

Fried was an absolute liberation to work with! He always remained friendly during the communication process and never restrained my artistic image. On top of that, he also taught me a couple of things I didn't knew before. He was never afraid to spend an extra session to make the mix just like I wanted it to be. He always gave me his honest opinion on the project, but never forced me to specifically do what he wanted. I can confidently say without a doubt that this person sure delivers good quality work!

Interview with Fried Ooms

  1. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  2. A: I have two people in the field that I really look up to, who also inspire and support me to work on my music. Andy Janssens is one of them. He is in working in this industry for 25+ years now and has had lots of international succes with a.o. Kate Ryan. Naomi Bentein is also one of them. She teaches me how to produce in the weekly music production classes in the local music academy two hours a week. She went to school for music production and therefor has a professional certificate. I have had a long period in my life where a listened to more EDM inspired songs. Especially to the bigger Future Bass artists like ILLENIUM, Seven Lions and Said the Sky. Afterwards, I shifted more to San Holo kind of stuff and other Bitbird artists like DROELOE and Duskus which is still EDM orientated, but is already willing to implie more organic elements (specifically San Holo's "album1"). Then, a big switch happened. I, nowadays, listen to guys and bands like Tamino, Oscar and the Wolf, Patrick Watson, Balthazar, Bazart, The Bony King of Nowhere, Nirvana, Led Zeppelin, Prince, dEUS, Dire Straits, The War On Drugs, James Blake, Tom Mich and so on...

  3. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  4. A: 1. The mid frequencies are way more important than we think. Yes, bass mixing is super important, but think about it. There also is a lot of energy in the mid range. On top of that, lots of the times we hear music (wether it is consciously or unconsciously), the frequency spectrum is rather shifted to the mid, and high frequencies. For example in places like supermarkets, restaurants and the shoppingcenter or on devices like our phones. Therefor I genuinely pay more attention to the mid spectrum when mixing. 2. Ear-candy is really the way to go if you want something to stay interesting. I always try making it myself by experimenting with bounced out versions of sounds that already going on in the song. Seriously, try it yourself. It will make this part of the arranging/production proces way more fun, and that way you also learn a lot about the effects you're using. It levels up your ability to really imagine different kinds of reverbs, and of course to shape them afterwards. 3. Check your mix in mono during the proces.

  5. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  6. A: I have an online portfolio where you can check out all the stuff I have worked on and am currently working on. My favorite genre is without a doubt Indie Pop. Online portfolio: www.soundcloud.com/friedsportfolio/sets
