Interview with Jimmy Krammer
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I've collected a lot of analog and digital gear in the last 10 years. Especially compression in analog gear gives me some sort of different vibe I was always looking for. My vintage Teletronix LA2 has a beautiful flavor, my original 1176 Blue Stripe is super aggressive and amazing on vocals. I was happy to produce at Abbey Road and I really think that Chandler nailed that sound. That's why I am using the Rack Mixer and TG 12345 Curve Bender.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I was working in a little studio in Manchester area. All of a sudden, there was a band coming in and working on some of their tracks. I saw them being very talented, sometimes struggling with sounds, arrangements, ideas & lyrics. I was helping them out with a few things like editing, recording or mic placement, so they could be creative. They're called "The 1975". It was one of my key experiences. :)
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: You will get unlimited revisions until your track is 100%. Communication is one of my top priorities. I will listen to you and your production carefully. If you ask me, I will give you advices and hints how to get better results, so you can develop as an artist and producer. My work always sounds radio ready.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Somewhere between Pop and RnB, sweet highs and mids, punchy low mids and compact bass.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Dua Lipa, because I think she's giving the listener spot on performances.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: As a person: Listening carefully and understanding what you're looking for. Technically: Letting your vocals shine, sit well in the mix and just being really lovely.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I always try to give it a musical, punchy and round feeling. I focus a lot on your vocal tracks, to let them sit nice in the mix. If you're giving me a reference, I am pretty sure I can sonically nail that reference.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Developing young & talented artists. I had the luck to be around some acts when they were not successful. When they became successful, I got the experience what was working & why it was working in the first row.
