Kelsey Mira on SoundBetter

Kelsey Mira is most known for her epic, Norse, ethereal vocals on video games: Immortals Fenyx Rising, Ori and the Will of the Wisps (Luma Pools), Darksiders Genesis (main theme, throughout the game), and more. She also writes music and does session work for artists, commercials, TV/film, & music libraries, where she sings pop, classical, and more.

Hi, I’m Kelsey Mira!

I’m honored to be of service to creatives all over the world, doing what I love! I work from my studio in southern CA. My favorite kind of day starts with a run, a latte, and opening my next session. Whether it’s a song for a video game, commercial or film, or you’re an artist hoping to add high quality vocals to your music, I would be thrilled to help bring your track to the next level!

I have a high soprano range up to a B5, belt up to Eb5. I specialize in classical & ethereal vocals, and sing pop as a secondary genre (included in my reel). I read so sheet music, guide vocal tracks, or midi works fine! I’ll work with you to get your recordings exactly how you want them and I pride myself in having happy clients, and getting the job done right, so don’t be afraid to give direction and ask for changes, if needed. I studied singing in French and Italian, and have sung in Hindi and other Middle Eastern dialects as well!

Here’s what I offer:
- Comped vocals
- Perfect pitch! Each vocal will be on key, clean, no background noise.
- Quick turnaround time! My turnaround is typically 8 days but if you need something done in 12-24 hours I can usually do it!

Rates:
Session with 1 comped lead vocal or 3-5 background vocal stems
- $300

Session with 1 comped lead vocal and background vocals/stacks
-$500

Send me an email through 'Contact' button above and I'll get back to you asap.

I have had the honor and privilege of working with Kelsey on multiple songs
and projects over the years. Kelsey is a truly fantastic multi-genre vocalist who can sing any style, but is just as talented as a songwriter and lyricist. With every project I have worked on with her, her vocal performance, her lyrics, her songwriting skills, and musical ear greatly improves the material I started with. From a project's beginning to end, it's always a joy to collaborate with such a talented musician, who's friendly and kind personality makes it doubly so. Kelsey is just pure awesome!

Over the past year our production company, Digital Tapestries, has had the honor to work and collaborate with Kelsey Mira on multiple projects. This collaborative relationship particularly focuses on music for films, which to say the least has been a gift for our films. Kelsey brings a tremendous amount of heart and depth to her vocals. After post-production, I often find myself listening multiple times to Kelsey’s vocals to inspire my own artistic journey. Besides the gift of voice, Kelsey is a great collaborator, who is attuned to each project while bringing her own creative sensibilities.

Interview with Kelsey Mira

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Lead vocals for Immortals Fenyx Rising. I was the lead solo vocalist and it was a fun project to work on, and an amazing single player game.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I have an NDA but it's a huge game coming out in 4 years! I can't wait to share it!

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Not yet! I've done a lot of work for AirGigs and I'm new to making a profile on here.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital. Analog of course sounds best, but we live in a digital world.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I will make sure you are very happy!

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Oh my gosh, everything. Hanging at E3 and getting to meet the team on a game I've worked on and having someone tell me how soothing it is that I sing to them every time their character dies, haha.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: I do a lot of quick turnarounds so I often get questions about how long my work takes. I've done many 12 hour turnarounds and can get a job quickly, if it requires it.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That I'm a diva. Don't let the professional photos fool you, haha. I'm humble and a perfectionist.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What's the mood/vibe of this piece. What kind of vocal do you want? How should it strike the listener?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: It's all in the details. Tell me what you're looking for! If there's a scene, show it to me. There's no such thing as too many details about what you're looking for :)

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Macbook, headphones, RNT, Korg Kronos, interface.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: My career path started out as an artist and songwriter, and has evolved into singing and writing on commercial video games and for other artists. I still do quite a bit of live concerts and release singles of my own, but have settled into doing more studio work in the commercial industry. I could work in the studio all day and I feel so blessed to have a career as a session vocalist and songwriter!

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Haunting, Ethereal, Classical, Broadway

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: It's more of a dream to work with a production company, like Disney. I have a dream of being a character in a Disney movie! Check out my cover of Into the Unknown!

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: I would say to play with your setup. Try different polarity patterns, distances from the mic, gains, etc until it just sits right. No amount of technical training can override a sound that the ear hears and loves. You know when it's right.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Game and Soundtrack vocals.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Singing and writing parts! Also, singing in different accents and languages. I've studied phonetics and can make the vocal character match the music.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: Clean, strong, tightly woven leads and harmonies. I have a pure soprano voice with a strong belty range and clear high range. I can sing both breathy/soft and strong, both with or without vibrato.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: Typically I'm given sheet music to work with so I sit at the piano with it until I nearly have it memorized, then I start tracking. I'll usually send a sample to the composer to make sure I'm on the right track.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: My main microphone is an RNT Multi-Pattern Tube Condenser Microphone. I also have an AKG 414. I use an Apogee interface with great preamps and DT 770 pro headphones so there's no bleed when I'm recording. I have an iso booth as well. My daw is logic and I have a lot of experience recording professional recordings. Check out my reel, everything (with the exception of Luma Pools in Ori in the Will of the Wisps) was recorded in my studio.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I was always inspired by Prince, how he could lay down every instrument and track a killer vocal, too. Other vocalists and composers for games and films like WoW, LOTR, and more, inspire me so much.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: The most common work I do is singing leads and backgrounds for commercial video games. I specialize in classical, etherial soundtrack vocals. I also sing pop and jazz for commercials and TV/Film.
